I don't see the virtue in lack of realism. Israel has almost completely destroyed Gaza. Nobody stopped them. The West Bank is at least as bad as the old days of the KKK. Either we can go along with the forced expulsion of the Gaza and West Bank Palestinians and presumably the so-called Israelis of Arab descent, pushing for some small but significant level of compensation, and more importantly, push for them to actually be counted as citizens somewhere more inviting than South Sudan ... or we can let ourselves be used as an excuse to keep them locked up in generational prison camps with lethal Israeli AI drones standing guard, until we see what happens. This happened before: in 1938, people around the world were pushing for Germany not to expel the Jews. They got their wish.

Priority One has to be to allow the people out, and get them far away from Israel. The Israelis will have many decades to issue apologies and reparations in the future, if the balance of power changes. If it doesn't, they will at least suffer the frustration of knowing that some Palestinian children still breathe air.

The thing about military action is, whether it is "legal" or not, the stronger force does get what it wants. It's someone else's job to make sure they choke on it.
