President Donald Trump dropped his demand for a ceasefire in Ukraine and told its president Saturday that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants Ukraine’s eastern Donbas area in exchange for halting the war.

Hours after Trump and Putin met Friday in Alaska, Trump said Ukraine and Russia should go straight to negotiating a settlement, a split with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European allies that aligns the United States with Putin.

Zelensky has rejected Russian demands to cede Ukrainian land. The Ukrainian leader and his European partners, including the leaders of Britain, France and Germany, had lobbied the White House to pressure Moscow into a ceasefire before any negotiations....

After the summit, Trump told Zelensky and other European leaders in a phone call that in addition to land Russia has seized in the war, Putin wants Ukraine to cede all of Donbas in exchange for a promise to freeze the front line elsewhere, according to four people familiar with the discussion. All spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive matter.

In years of fighting, Russia has been unable to seize all of Donbas. Russian forces occupy almost all of the Luhansk region of Donbas but do not control part of the strategic, fortified Donetsk region, where Russian forces have made an advance in recent days.

Trump conveyed that he was shifting away from the ceasefire demand and toward reaching a swift deal, which could make the Russian conditions the starting point for talks, two of the people said....

It would appear all of Donbas, Luhansk and Donetsk, was what Putin wanted and now it would appear Zelensky is faced with losing all of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Kherson, and Crimea to end the war. IMO Putin is the only one capable of making demands unless Zelensky can find a way to force Russian troops out of the occupied areas, which I don't believe the U.S. or the EU wants to do for him.
The big question is what are the Ukranian citizens willing to do, fight or flight?

It is clear that Trump is endorsing Putin's position. Russia has the support of the US in it's illegal invasion of the Ukraine and the illegal occupation of it's lands.....let that sink in.
 
I want everyone here to imagine this: Putin tells Trump what he wants and Trump agrees with the demands in the hopes that would end the war and get this............. that Russia will not eye MORE territory in the future.
Then Trump will make a bid for the Nobel Peace Prize and when denied will blame Globalists, anti-Trump sentiment, unfair treatment (after all he has already voiced that he has been treated as badly as Abe Lincoln)

Now comes the fun part. A true conservative like Ronald Reagan would be rolling over in his grave. Republicans who used to be hard on Russia are not rolling over in service to Trump.

AND those who claim to be Republican supporters and true conservatives but are now part of the Trump cult are also rolling over in service to Trump.

Make no mistake here folks. It becomes more obvious EVERY day on here that if something is proposed by Trump it has to be gospel and ANY criticism fills pages and pages of whiny, angry, petulant, and off topic responses. Those of us who have been here a while know this. THEY know what they are doing too.

Well, maybe if Ukraine can take control of Moscow they'll have some bargaining power.
Currently they have little or none.

Try checking out some videos on YouTube about ukraine's drone attacks. Precision, well thought out attacks that the Russian radars can't stop.
 
It is illegal in Ukraine to cede territory to an invading force. Article 2 of the Ukrainian constitution states "The sovereignty of Ukraine extends throughout its entire territory. Ukraine is a unitary state. The territory of Ukraine within its present border is indivisible and inviolable."

In order to give Putin what he wants, they would have to amend their constitution. However, article 157 prohibits that as well.
 
That would seem to leave the only option to be for Russia to take all of Ukraine. All or nothing.
