Major announcements:

Europe travel ban, effective friday

Co-Pay cancelled

Loans and other economic measures.

What the frig was that Donald. Some Oval Office announcement that was.

NOW you are announcing a travel ban on Europe EXCEPT THE UK, NOW???? Are you nuts. Too late DonDon and why is the UK exempt?

As for other countries in Europe, all you had to do was read posts in this forum to know that you should have done a European travel ban weeks ago, not a frigging warning which is what you did. Don't blame Europe for travel from China to Europe. You obviously knew there was travel from China to Europe and you didn't do anything substantive about it!

Now COVID-19 is here and you announced NOTHING about dealing with the virus on our own soil. This was likely your last shot at announcing a National Health Emergency in time to make an actual difference. We need to test more rapidly and in high volume. Anything about getting us there DonDon? NOPE!

That was a disgusting display of nonsense. Frankly I would refer folks to my posts about the last Task Force Briefing from yesterday when the Task Force looked more competent than it had to that point and by a country mile. Who was not there? DonDon of course and the Task Force looked if anything relieved and competent. Pence actually looked like the President and as I said at the time, DonDon would not let that pass. So today we get no briefing from the task force. It is instead canceled and we get the idiot buffoon from the Oval blathering about his economic accomplishments, blah...blah....blah.

Yes DonDon, we will have to do something to deal with the economic damage wrought by COVID-19. But to have used the Oval for a 9:00PM announcement that announced NOTHING about getting PEOPLE through this is beyond belief. It is suggestive of a complete failure on DonDon's part and as such it is no longer a surprise that the Federal Government as a whole has failed to this point.

The absolute only thing that DonDon announced that had anything to do with people is that Health Insurance companies will not require co-pays for COVID-19 servicing. BIG FRIGGING WHOOPDIE-ding dong Donald.

To be fair, if you remove the stupid "We did the best ever" stuff that taints his communications, and you ignore his prior downplaying the virus as Trump putting the nation MORE at risk...

...
The speech did seem to take a more serious tone finally. Not sure why payroll tax cuts are his first go-to...looks like more corporate welfare, **** them. Help workers, non-working middle-class/poor, and the uninsured. It's so easy to bailout wall street and the fat cats...that's good. But helping people in need...oh no...that will make them dependent and stuff...and maybe die you know...stuff. Was paid time off detailed? I felt it may have been more hand-waiving there...would be nice to have something firm to deliver. But if it comes soon, OK that's progress.

Considering that this is a 180 from his prior shenanigans, I think it was at the least, a move in the right direction.

Please, POTUS, get tested. A Brazilian official who visited your "Southern WH" this weekend has tested positive for Covid-19.

Anyone notice the inhaling between sentences.......?

It's nice, a month or so later, to get the president on board with taking things seriously.

And, in other news.

Hmm...beginning on Friday, I will have six guys traveling out of state. Not sure this will happen now. Ditto the trucks coming to pick up the equipment.

I can't believe I am saying this. But...

That is simply grading dondon on a ridiculous curve based on the norm for the Orangutan in the Oval. Sorry....not nearly convincing that there was ANYTHING positive to take from that announcement.

We are about two weeks behind Italy and STILL not responding to the actual virus itself within our borders. IMO, this was the last opportunity DonDon had to announce a National Health Emergency in time to make a difference. What is he going to do after tonight, announce a National Health Emergency tomorrow? Oh yea...he said he would exercise some Emergency powers....Which ones DonDon? Tell us what the frig you are doing. Oh wait I know...planning your next golf outing you frigging FOOL!

I said it the other day. He and Pence both have it. I am reasonably sure of it.

I thought it was yet another one of Trump’s very strange performances.

I suspect that he had never read a word of it before it was loaded in the teleprompter. (He has a tendency to do that, and it shows in his presentation).

He wrapped himself in xenophobia and isolation. Patting himself on the back for a travel ban on China (after suggesting that this is the Chinese virus for two days), and demonizing the EU as ineffective.

This is a global crisis, a global pandemic, and the “leader of the free world” proclaims his xenophobia.

He offered no comments on domestic health concerns.

And proposed a host of very loosely defined notions, much of which have the same slap dash feel that most Trump roll outs have.

For instance, Trump bellowed that the SBA was going to be instructed to hand out $50 billion in loans......The agency has a total budget of less than one billion dollars.

And another $250 billion for something else. I can’t recall exactly just what, the number was so ludicrous.

And the payroll tax cut. Which is an unnecessary and expensive gimmick.

i made it about thirty seconds in before i had to hit the **** you button.

Sure...because his handlers finally impressed upon him that a) he could make the US look like we're now at the forefront of success in fighting this b) his administration has created such a 'fantastic' economy that now he can throw loads of $ at it to look like a hero for re-election, and c) that he MUST read it word for word and no improvising with 'bigly,' 'beautiful,' 'yuge', etc.

Better late than never. Trump is a dangerous fool and shouldn't be in charge of anything...not a charity, not a university, certainly not a string of bankrupt hotels...and definitely not hte United States.
A corrupt, dangerous fool.

The speech tonight, was late...a month late as you say or more. And yet, it finally took a more appropriate tone, and I was relieved to see HIM adopting that tone in public. I was listening to health officials and not Trump, so it's not like I was waiting to hear what the fool would say. I was however hoping he finally took the appropriate tone, at the least, to help his base stop being being partisan fools about a global ****ing pandemic.
It does nothing to build any trust in him, or appreciation of him, he needs to be removed from office since month 3 of his presidency.

And yet it was still good to see him finally do a 180 on this. Remember, on things like Russia, he still sides with Russia over the U.S., so it could be *even worse*, where Trump is concerned.

My takeaways:

Called it a "horrible infection" but dont panic!

Yeah, he was claiming how professional their response has been...yet he called our gov a snake :doh

We don’t include the UK in the travel ban…cant the rest of Europe can come thru there?

I love it…now he's taking action cuz he doenst want to look like any other countries are 'doing it better.' LOL

I am happy to see it because his followers aren't going to listen to anyone else and the right wing eco chamber is borderline dangerous on this issue when he's making this about him.

On Russia, they are currently making things worse economically by going into an oil price war at the worst possible time. I hope Trump doesn't really think they are his friends.

The ban on European travel is ****ing ridiculous. I foresee a lot of travel between the US and Europe just being funneled through the UK and Canada. All he has done is make the trip more expensive and inconvenient.

I also cant help but feel like he is just using it as an excuse to target the EU. Edit, definitely, as he blames the EU, as clearly he has no idea what the EU does.

Tom Hanks and his wife have it...just announced. THey tested positive.

And they're in Australia.

I am sorry to have to say it because as much as I have tried to simply post up the numbers, the rational for what Scientists were trying to do in smoothing the bell curve of contagion in this country and rationally discussing what has and has not worked elsewhere and what we can do within the framework of a Free Society, I can no longer hold my tongue.

This is a national tragedy in the making. We are bearing witness to it while we are accosted by it and watching the Trump Administration utterly FAIL. The only solid response to date have come from business leaders, state and local government and community leaders who have to this point just brushed Donald aside and done what they could do. But DonDon is not even helping them, never mind taking the lead!!!!!!

Good luck to all of you. Good luck to all Americans. God Bless the United States of America.

We are about to cross into an extremely serious phase of this catastrophe.

I am now beginning to think we are in the beginnings of a global depression.

The train is about to come off the tracks.
