The firing prompted swift criticism from economists, former government officials and others, who said the removal would further erode trust in government statistics and make it more difficult for policymakers, investors and businesses, who rely on having dependable data about the economy to make decisions. In addition to the monthly jobs numbers, the Bureau of Labor Statistics is responsible for producing data on inflation, wages and other aspects of the economy.

Trump fired Dr. Erika McEntarfer, the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, whom he accused, without evidence, of manipulating the monthly jobs reports for "political purposes." "I think her numbers were wrong" What proof does Trump have that her numbers were wrong? Dr. McEntarfer doesn't compile the numbers herself. There are thousands of people who help put together the jobs report every month and hundreds of thousands of input of data. The commissioner collects and compiles that data from various sources to produce key reports like the monthly jobs report. The commissioner doesn't even get the data from those sources until the Wednesday before the announcement. Dr. Erika McEntarfer is a Black woman, I just thought I'd put that out there.

Trump is taking control of the fiscal numbers when he doesn't like what the numbers are. If whoever is in charge of statistical data reports, you have to give him the numbers he wants, or you're out. Statistics are mathematics, that's the science of it. This move by Trump is just another path to being a banana republic. It's going to weaken confidence in purchasing, and I expect the stock market will reflect this with a sharp dive on Monday morning. We just saw the stock market have the worst week in months. Next week will be far worse.

If statistics aren't important any longer, trust is gone. Our dollar will be weaker, and goods and services are going to cost more. This is going to affect people in other countries as well because economies around the world are based on the U.S. dollar. The U.S. economy has always been viewed as relatively stable, and many nations hold large reserves of U.S. cash. Trump has been explicit about stacking the courts and manipulating statistical agencies. I guarantee that he will also get his wish to drop interest rates. It's a path to the destruction of our society. Of all the horrible things Trump has done since January, this will be the most damaging to the economy of the U.S.

Don't worry about the numbers. Just trust Trump. He says things are great. That's all you need to know. In fact, by cutting the staffing at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and cutting their budget, Trump has guaranteed that no bad news will come out, because news won't be coming out.

One of those surveys that is released annually is dangerous jobs. You know, how many deaths or serious injuries each occupation has, and this data allows among other things Insurance Companies to adjust their rates based upon the risk associated with each occupation. That Survey is on the chopping block as we speak. But hey, who cares? It isn't like that is important, unless you want Insurance on the company you own or manage.

Or you want information on things like Inflation.

You know, the stuff we sort of depend on for setting rates of loans and such.

Here's the woman that Trump fired (because Trump is evil and can never take responsibility for anything).

I'm sure she has a mortgage and needs health insurance and a pension. I'm sure her reputation is damaged by the baby who is supported by tons of Christians...

Trump had a bad week, and this is one of the distractions

The guy who claims that Qatar gave us $1.2 trillion and Japan gave us $550 billion and the EU is giving us $700 billion as part of his “trade deals” fired the government statistician who reports employment numbers because he didn’t agree with them.

From now on, wise people in the government will ask "What does Trump want my report to say?" And they will write their report. East peezy.

Which is why we can afford to fire so many government workers since the tedious and difficult job of collecting accurate statistics is fully unnecessary.

All she did was come to work and compile the numbers given to her/her staff from a variety of sources (like RED states).

And Trump just ruined another human because he's evil.

The persons life is likely not ruined given compilation of accurate reports is a generally useful skillset.

She could get another job but who in the hell wants to be fired (life totally disrupted) for simply coming to work and doing their job appropriately?

It's a dick move to be sure.

I personally would never want to work for someone who would fire me for doing my job appropriately.

If I currently worked for the bureau of labor statistics I would be looking for a different job.

Which then means the most corrupt MAGAs in the country will run that organization that we all depend upon, as we make business decisions, and say whatever Trump wants them to say.

The liar who claims he has a 90% approval rating fired the person in charge of compiling the numbers from the states/etc.

MAGA has no integrity.

It's obviously time we stopped depending on the government to put out real numbers.

I don't expect that trading firms are going to blindly trust the government so the research is going to have to be invested in. So, now all you'll have to do to figure out what is really going on is pay to see their research.

Well, I guess we could depend upon places like Fox News and MSNBC to give numbers so that business owners and stock traders can make informed decisions and not go belly up.

I assume that someone is willing to furnish us with real data, it's just a matter of how much we'll have to pay for data we can trust.

You know what assuming does right?

You think a demand like "I need real data on the American economy so I don't lose billions of dollars" is going to go unfulfilled?

There's going to be real data out there, the only question is whether you can afford it.

If the data is going to be coming from biased paid entities then we can't trust it.

Would you trust the data coming from podcasters?

You can pay people to aggregate objective data, it's what the Government was doing.

Places like trading firms already do this because they need MORE data than the government would give them.

Finding and aggregating data that you can trust is a skill set as I said earlier, and quite useful.

Trump just literally fired the person who put all the data together from places like red states because he wanted the data to be different. That's what this is about.
