Helsinki, Finland (CNN)US President Donald Trump told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday that he hopes their two countries can have an "extraordinary relationship" going forward, just hours after he blamed US policy -- not Putin -- for the dismal state of relations between the two countries.

I wouldn't be surprised if a new Russian/American alliance will be announced at the end of the meeting.

With what Trump has said publicly about Russia so far, Putin will be emboldened to meddle in our country to get what he wants. And if Trump does as you predict, then things are much worse than we thought. It would be time to actually talk about impeachment. I mean given the facts and the presidents behavior, he is the biggest "foe" that the US has.

Nothing substantive ever comes of Trump’s little sideshows. Well unless there’s some useful accord for him to blow up. We don’t have any especially significant arms control agreements remaining with Russia, so maybe he’ll just move to lift sanctions.

So far all I have is Trump blaming the U.S. for poor relations with Russia (Lavrov tweeted his agreement with the statement) and then Trump winking at Putin.

Nothing really to talk about that hasn't been beaten to death already. I watched the 'live' broadcast in the beginning, but no bid deal.

So because Trump's bad behavior is so common place, having been beaten to death, it's not a big deal?

That's certainly one way to look at the fact that the President of the United States, under investigation for conspiracy with Russians to win the election (among other things), just blamed our poor relationship with Russia on the United States, and not on Russian behavior. And then proceeds to have a private one on one with him.

And considering we have what, 20+ Russians indicted for crimes against the U.S. this year.

He's said repeatedly of this meeting he hopes to be friends with Putin...while Putin sits back and enjoys the show.

No, we'll beat this horse until it's no longer an issue, not because you are fatigued.

Well, 45 and Putin agree on one thing already. Both call election interference a "witch hunt."

Interesting that you don't really care about the meeting, or don't care about the consequences.

Well after all those meetings with enemies like NATO and the UK and such, it's nice to be able to have a sit down with such a staunch and trusted ally as Russia. At least after this meeting, we'll know what it is that we're doing going forward after Putin tells us exactly what that is.

So this is only a "little sideshow"?
Probably. Let’s see if we even get an empty pledge out of it before we call it anything else. Some concession on Crimea or Syria would be nice, though I typically wait for some move toward fulfillment of promises before I take my pants off. I suspect we won’t even get the promise, though. More likely some boilerplate statement about “improving cooperation” or some such.

So humor me. What do you think it is?

I don't see how anyone could possibly support the President meeting with Putin considering that indictments came out just a few days ago proving that Putin conspired to undermine the US presidential election.

As Charles Blow writes, Trump is a Treasonous Traitor for not protecting the country from an ongoing attack.

He ends the column with, "Trump is more concerned with protecting his presidency and validating his election than he is in protecting this country."

45 tweeted before they met that it was a "rigged witch hunt." That puts his supporters on the same page as Putin, Fox and the Russian press.

It’s Trumps annual performance review.

I think we all know the outcome.

He’s made his boss proud, and his loans won’t be called in, and Ivanka won’t get Novichuked.

Not much more to it than this.

I am sure this has been explained to you, but I will do it again just for the hell of it. When Trump calls the investigation a 'witch hunt' he is referring to the collusion aspect.

The problem is that Trump is meeting with Putin in secret, with no one else around. So we have to rely on Trump to tell us what happened, and that's as good as Fake News.

I support it. It is the perfect time to meet with Putin.

Posting hyperbolic idiocy like that only harms your own credibility. Whats left of it anyway.

I didn't say that at all, so stop with mis-representing what my point is.

There has been no big deal developments as of the time I wrote that. Anyone not looking to spin something would know that is what I meant.

I'm just hoping he doesn't give Alaska back today.
