This is unbelievable incompetence.

Hundreds of federal employees who lost their jobs in Elon Musk’s cost-cutting blitz are being asked to return to work.

Those who accept must report for duty on October 6 after what amounts to a seven-month paid vacation, during which time the GSA in some cases racked up high costs — passed along to taxpayers — to stay in dozens of properties whose leases it had slated for termination or were allowed to expire.

“Ultimately, the outcome was the agency was left broken and understaffed,” said Chad Becker, a former GSA real estate official. “They didn’t have the people they needed to carry out basic functions.”

Not only that, now Edolf likely has a backdoor into all our most sensitive national security, personal, federal agency data, cybersecurity defensive protocols, and other information.

The WH clown car lurches on.

The October 6 report date would have to be contingent upon Congress and the President signing budget Bill to fund the government.

Said many times that DOGE took the wrong approach to downsize the federal government. A comprehensive program review should have been done instead of the slash/burn approach.
Any reduction should be based on President and Congressional direction for the Agencies.

I am so glad I have been retired for over 20 years for the federal government. No way would I want to work under the current Administration with the threat of being fired. imo, many in Trump's cabinet have no respect for federal employees.

If the GSA was responsible for the following, they apparently were terrible at their jobs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Federal Real Estate:
The GSA constructs, manages, and preserves federal buildings and leases commercial real estate.

    • Procurement and Acquisition:
It serves as the federal government's acquisition arm, providing access to a wide range of products, services, and technology through programs like the GSA Schedule (Multiple Award Schedule).
    • Technology Leadership:
The GSA's Technology Transformation Services helps federal agencies adopt modern technology and processes to improve efficiency and service delivery.
    • Government-Wide Policy:
The GSA develops policies to promote best practices in government management and operations.
    • Sustainability:
The agency plays a critical role in helping the federal government achieve its sustainability goals.

Thats how Clinton did it.

I have had a lot of contact with the GSA, and I have to say that the stereotype people have of the hidebound bureaucrat starts right there.

Imagine thinking that some little shitlet called "Big Balls", who wasn't even 20 years of age, could possibly identify waste in an agency correctly just because he is good at programming.

This is the least of our worries though.

Elon, and countless of these people, have tremendous caches of data no private citizen should have access to....and it's all our data. I can take some degree of shadenfreude in all the elderly Trump voters who will get scammed with it, once it's sold on to crime rings. But...everyone else....good lord.

(What...you think the young DOGE turd who was already busted stealing and trying to sell confidential data from a company he worked for wouldn't be dumb enough to do it again?)

I have a lot of experience with mostly provincial governments through work. And of course as a customer of provincial and federal departments for everything from vehicle registration to tax support.

Joe Public aka 'nitwit' hasn't a clue how efficiently those departments function.

Who later got his ass kicked by a 15 year old girl.

Imagine the humiliation.

Oh, I agree.

Except for the GSA. They are a cartoon.

US government departments are huge and monstrously complex. Messing with them is not a job for a novice who not long ago was learning to tie his shoes.

Good news! These people will be good fits for the jobs, and should help lower the unemployment rate.

A win for America.

DOGE is a perfect example of the dangers of political old wives' tales. Those involved spent years or decades casually repeating mantras about how the government is full of waste. So they went in thinking that as long as something looks like 'waste', it is waste, and they don't need to understand it.

Nevermind all the mixed motives. There's no way Elon went into this hoping to save the republic some pennies on the dollar out of the glowing goodness of his heart, that's for sure....

How it Works

Did you read part 2 of the linked source?
It explains what GSA and others have done to reduce the federal govt. office space situation.
Seems quite a bit has been done.

Congress and the President also play a major role on what GSA or any federal agency can do. When the Congress and the President sign CR's rather than appropriation Bills it limits what an agency can do during the fiscal year.

So DOGE was a joke after all. Who knew!
What are DOGE even doing right now? Sitting rolling their thumbs and lifting a salary, I guess. Big Balls still have an office in DC, first I thought Elon had taken him back, but I was wrong about that. He is still with DOGE, that still is supposed to do.... something.
