In the OP link the Taco hatin', anti American kommanyst rag NY Times says the DC crime rate is at a 30 year low. I'm sure Taco has facts and not just hysterics and hyperbole to put them in their place.

This is dress rehearsal for an American police state. ICE will be carrying out Trump’s orders nationwide all under the guise of liberating the country from something that doesn’t exist. Using fear of the other is back and in full force. Declare everything an emergency and soon martial law is in place. Then our rights are taken away for our own good as the government claims it is for our safety. Classic authoritarian methods to strip rights and create a police state. Our petty dictator president is playing strong man leader and if we let him get away with it we sign away all our rights and freedoms for the false perception of security.

I believe you have to request it. I don't think this site ever merges threads on its own.
