The Trump administration has formally accepted a Boeing 747 jet that was gifted to the U.S. by the government of Qatar, the Pentagon said Wednesday.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth accepted the luxury plane “in accordance with all federal rules and regulations,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement to CNBC.

The Department of Defense will work to ensure that the jet, which President Donald Trump has said he wants to use as the new Air Force One, fulfills “proper security measures and functional-mission requirements,” Parnell said.

So, while DJT gains a $400M dollar 747, the US (Taxpayers) are on the hook for the estimated $1B in upgrades needed to bring it up to AF1 specs. Then at the end of his term, he gets the jet, and the taxpayers are still on the hook for the new AF1s that are currently under construction (behind schedule).

Democrats tried passing a resolution in the senate last night preventing this and it was blocked by republicans.

It's beyond me how the entire country isn't up in arms about this. We have become so numb to all the Trump scandals; none stand out anymore. I am so looking forward to the creative lawyering it will take to successfully bring a suit against Trump for this. While it's clearly a violation of the constitution, I am not sure who would have standing to bring the suit.

It is worth saying again, Trump is running one of the most blatantly obvious pay to play administration schemes in all of US history.

The level of corruption and personal enrichment using the power of the Presidency is one for the record books.

The jet has a wet bar, that's why Hegseth approved it.

One would expect any greedy person who got elected to try this kind of BS. This isn't the surprising part. The surprising part is the lack of pushback by republican lawmakers in general. One or two made some wishy-washy comments, but in the end did nothing to stop it.

Did the lawmakers also take an oath to protect the constitution?

Don't take offense to this comment, but joking about this stuff only serves to normalize it. We should all be incensed about this.

I am not offended. And I do agree with you, we shouldn't joke to normalize it. And, I am angry over this.
But, until the mid-terms, there's nothing that can be done, except hopefully build up enough anger from voters to to give Dems majority in House, so we can hold these clowns accountable.
Look at the feckless Congress led by the biggest, spineless loser ever to hold the gavel. They accomplish nothing of substance to help America. All they do is pave the way for Trump and his dick suckers to continue to do what they want.

Republican says Biden started controversial negotiations for …

5 days ago · Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., recently claimed that widely-criticized negotiations with Qatar over a $400 million Air Force One temporary replacement gift …

The far left is making stuff up again.
It's not a gift to Trump.
And it was planed during the Biden administration.

Blatantly and unapologetically unconstitutional.

At this stage of the game, I would love to hear from some of our resident lawyers as to what can be done to oppose this in the courts. As I recall, during the last term, Trump was sued for violating the emoluments clause and the suit was ongoing when he lost the election, so it was dropped. If it can be done, it needs to start happening now.

Imagine if the United States gifted weapons or planes or something to another country?

We would never do so, but as a thought exercise, what would another country do?

Say it was a European democracy, just to keep things simple.

Maybe that can help us work out how best to handle such gifts.

All verbal word salad. If the plane was exclusively being gifted to the government for use as AF1 and would remain AF1 after Trump left office and was congressionally approved as required by the constitution, it would be a different story.

This is not the case, and you know it.

Andrews AFB ATC: "Bordello One, this Andrews. You are cleared to approach for runway 01R. Begin your decent."

Bordello One: "Roger Andrews, beginning decent from angles 10 approaching intercept."

Dumb, dumber, and dumbest. They played Donald like a 2 bit fiddle.

For sure, but this isn't the case.

So what if the United States gifted planes to another country... what should that country do?

Accept them? Or reject them as bribes? Transfer them to their air force?

How should countries handle this?

Other countries have little problem accepting air craft gifts from other countries- but this is what is supposed to set the United States apart.

None of our business. They can handle it how they want. We need to handle it according to our constitution. As it stands, it violates our constitution. The most ridiculous part of this whole debacle is that all Trump has to do is get permission from congress and it would be resolved. Given the current partisanship in congress, I have no doubt they would approve it.

Trump is intentionally doing this without congressional consent. He's pushing the envelope as far as he can in order to normalize this kind of shit. If he gets away with this, what's next?

It violates our constitution. However, his supporters don't care.
