But but Elon Musk is the new NASA! Yeah...about that.

Well, you can say goodbye to the US having a space lead over the others(China). And, there won't be any telescopes being built-if this holds. Going back to the wild wild west. Better stock up on handguns and ammo!

'Nancy Grace Roman' telescope?! Seriously... rename it and might just fly.

Webb hasn't helped us with dark matter and dark energy. Would be good to get an inkling about those.
perhaps. It's pure science i would imagine, and there are competing designs ( im sure you saw the hotlink )
Maybe only a few billion here and there, but it adds up. Probably Congress will fund it as it's mostly built

It's a budget draft.
Yes, this is something Trump haters conveniently ignore. Instead, they act as if it's a done deal and that it was done by the Trump administration.

Let me guess: Half the money NASA was getting now goes to Space X(plosion)
And the US Space Force can buy lots of cool stuff from them, too.

It's a budget draft. but do we really need more space telescopes? Webb is awesome
Yes and yes. Each telescope is built on the technology of the previous observation systems. Webb builds on the Hubble telescope, which itself built on ground observatories, which itself built on "simple" telescopes people would use to look at stars from their back yard. Imagine what the next generation of telescopes will be able to see. But thanks to budget cuts to science and engineering, there likely won't be a next generation of tech. At least not by the US. But there will be plenty more ignorance.

All the more reason to invest in newer science and tech.

So transparent, there is only one person who benefits from this move, and he is likely standing in the Oval Office next to Trump.
And that person will sell anything he comes up with that works to ANY country.
He is NOT what one would call a loyal American .

Why is it in the draft in the first place?
This is something MAGA conveniently ignores.

These new scopes tell more than just distance of bodies from Earth.

Just rename it to Nancy Roman Telescope.

Unfortunately, the namesake of the telescope had a real bad choice of given and middle names.

😄

Do we really need to give the South African Nazi any money?

He needs to be deported, and all his assets need to be frozen.

America's days as the world's scientific powerhouse are rapidly coming to a close.
And that is very sad. The same thing happened in the Middle East a thousand years ago. Back then, it was an intellectual powerhouse. One guess as to what changed it?

The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) led Webb's design and development and partnered with two main agencies: the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).

The Webb telescope was built by a conglomerate of nations. This is clearly the trend because these things have gotten so big and expensive that costs need to be shared.

No. They said they will build it, now launching it? That's another thing. Having said that, it better not be canceled. That telescope WILL find ET.

Or, maybe, just maybe, there are many smart individuals around the world and they want them to be working together? As oppose to all living in one nation. It's hard to convince a French Mathematician to move to the states, when he, "or she", will give up a great safety net and great food and great society, for the American version of 'freedom'.

There's a great difference between working together because you want to work together vs. you have to work together or you'll have no work at all. That's just the nature of economics.

Yeah, I'm not too concerned about telescopes. I am more concerned about getting spaceships out there exploring and the chance to find new resources and claim the territory for exploitation.

You wonder why? Tariff roll out was so well done.
