Trump...about BRICS

BRICS talks alot, but one thing you have to remember about BRICS is that the countries who are part of it do not like each other at all, which also means they really never get anything done.

You keep saying..."Americans pay more". No. They won't. They will either find the product at a cheaper price or they won't buy the product at all. That is Econ 101.

That is not, in fact, Econ 101, as any economics professor would remind of the existence of essential purchases, like food, gas, medicine, so on.

So...if Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates go through with their plans of creating another international currency, they will not be able to sell to the largest market in the world. Their products will simply be too expensive.

Think how hard that will hit China, alone.

Will it, though?

again, the US needs international trade just as much as the BRICs do.

I personally think they should call the BRICs the "CRIBs", because it's really just China and those other guys. China's GDP is 18 Trillion. India is 3 Trillion, Russia is 2 Trillion and Brazil is 2 Trillion.

Will it, though?
Yes.

The bulk of China's GDP comes from their sales in the US.

All of those BRICS countries nee the US more than the US needs them.

That's not really true. China has an 18 Trillion dollar GDP.

U.S. goods and services trade with China totaled an estimated $758.4 billion in 2022. Exports were $195.5 billion; imports were $562.9 billion. The U.S. goods and services trade deficit with China was $367.4 billion in 2022.

Even if you count all of that as a lump sum we represent less than 4% of China's GDP. But really, if you only count the deficit, it's more like 2%.

I don't think they really do, though. China is already the biggest trading partner for India, Russia and Brazil. This wasn't the case 20 years ago, when the US was.

In fact, with the exception of North America, and some of Western Europe, China is the biggest trading partner for most of the world.

Is Spain still in BRICS?
:)

A rose is a rose.
This is the kind of short sightedness that will leave the US out in the cold, especially when you have an idiot intent on making the US an unstable trading partner.

Since Trumps first term, China has been rapidly shrinking it's reliance on US trade. We now make up less than 15% of Chinas exports. And the more Trump alienates other countries, who then see China as a more reliable and fair trade partner, the less China is going to care about what America does. It's the sort of poorly informed arrogance in your post that represents the type of attitudes that are going to doom America.

This is exactly why I find the current administration's tactics daft and immature. China and the developing world have been building partnerships to get around US economic hegemony, so I think it's not the time to drive a wedge between our trading partners.
