This guy in India should read more of your posts to set his mind at ease. It's just a tax on American citizens. Nothing for him to worry about.

Tariffs and sales taxes are functionally identical. It doesn’t matter who is imposing them. Tariffs are a tax on buying a good/service, just like sales taxes are.

They are all regressive and far more harmful to the poor and middle class.

It will decrease American imports because people can afford to import less. Meaning India will export less.

It’s a lose lose for everyone but the government.

I see. So tariffs are sales taxes in the same way that corporate taxes, environmental regulations, labor laws, social security, medicare and minimum wage laws are regressive sales taxes that are far more harmful to the poor and middle class.

Do you think that's why income inequality is so prevalent in places where Democrats hold the most power?

No they aren’t and you don’t see it. Corporate taxes are income taxes. They don’t have a tax incidence rate anywhere near 100%. But I’m guessing you don’t even know what “tax incidence” is.

Environmental regulations and labor laws aren’t taxes at all. Neither are minimum wage laws. Social Security and Medicare taxes are closer to services fees than taxes and they have zero impact on prices of goods.

You really have no ****ing clue about extremely basic economic concepts.

Income inequality is prevalent where Democrats tend to be in power because those places tend to be urbanized with far more people and urban places with high population density tend to have more inequality under capitalism.
