On Friday, Trump forced out the acting U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Erik S. Siebert. He reportedly had not found sufficient evidence to charge New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) with mortgage fraud or former FBI director James B. Comey with perjury, as the president wants. On Saturday, Trump expressed frustration on social media at Attorney General Pam Bondi, declared certain of his critics to be “guilty as hell” and announced one of his former defense lawyers as Siebert’s replacement.

Trump announced Halligan, his former defense, as Siebert's replacement.

Without Senate confirmation, Halligan’s authority will be similarly challenged once her interim status runs out after 120 days. Halligan also has no experience as a prosecutor. Her background is as an insurance lawyer. Until this week, she was spearheading the White House’s review of Smithsonian programming. If the Senate does give her a confirmation hearing, it would provide an opportunity for lawmakers to remind the public that Trump is breaking his promise to stop the weaponization of government.

NJ is still stuck with this brilliant bit of governing:

The president will probably ratchet up pressure on the Senate to “go nuclear” to confirm Halligan as Siebert’s replacement — that is, to move Halligan’s nomination without the agreement of Virginia’s two Democratic senators. Thus far, key Republicans have resisted Trump’s pressure to discard the “blue slip” tradition that has historically required support from a home-state senator for a U.S. attorney pick to get a vote. The result has been that Alina Habba, another former Trump defense lawyer, could not get confirmed as U.S. attorney for New Jersey. The Justice Department is maneuvering to keep Habba in the role, but this creates legal uncertainty about her status and raises the risk that her prosecutions will be invalidated.

There is so much information here I'm unsure what else to quote. Read it for yourselves. This is not governing.

Nixon's mistake was not being openly corrupt.

It wouldn't shock me if Trump just decided to turn up in court for the sole purpose of mocking the judge and his fans would lap it up.
Trump has shown that he thinks he's fully above the law and again his fans agree.

The era of King Trump is already here and his fans love it.

No, we had a little better standards back then.

Standards are for losers and wimps.
Trump needs to find the very bottom of the barrel of Presidential dignity.

Presidents have the ability to fire US Attorneys at will without cause.
Not one peep from the usual suspects when Obama did.
Now why would that be?

Show your work.
Ahh sorry, had the wrong Dem President. Here's a rounded out list including both party's.

PresidentYear(s)Number of U.S. Attorneys FiredContext
George W. Bush20068Controversial firings linked to political motivations, including allegations of improper reasons.
Bill Clinton199393Replaced all U.S. attorneys upon taking office, a common practice for incoming presidents.
Donald Trump2017-202134% of original staffHigh turnover rate among senior aides, though not specifically U.S. attorneys.

None the less, what I stated was true, that the president has the authority to dismiss US attorneys at will.

You're having an argument that no one is having.

Why didn't you include the source of this chart?

Nixon's mistake was not being openly corrupt.
Actually people in politics, government, MSM, corporate magnates and those types knew Nixon was on the take.

I was 25 and in The Old Guard when Nixon was inaugurated in January 1969 and the well informed voter knew it too. As I've noted in past posts, I marched in Nixon's Inaugural Parade which I've always considered to be a dubious distinction and strictly a performance of duty to the best of my abilities.

Nixon was the star anticommunist of the time and filthy rich extreme rightwingers funded him to be elected to the House from a very rightwing District in California. His anticommunism went so well the Birchers and other wealthy capitalists put him up for the Senate which succeeded no problem.

Joe McCarthy became Joe McCarthy because Senator Nixon wouldn't do it. Sen. Nixon the USN veteran of WW II would not attack the Army, DeptState and even Hollywood and university professors that Nixon hated so much. Nixon who was angling for VP in 1952 (and got it of course) saw what became the strong negative of McCarthyism as too controversial and too anti Constitution for his ambitions. Nixon prized his "clean" anticommunism that by 1952 had put him squarely in line for VP in '52. McCarthy had no such ambitions or possibilities. McCarthy became McCarthy because he was known already as a rabid attack dog and chronic drunk. Nixon was awkward but upright.

Nixon knew with others that the 1952 Republican nomination was going to either Eisenhower the moderate or Taft the very conservative sober Senator who already was too much like McCarthy for comfort. The HUGE hero of WW 2 Europe Ike got the nomination -- Taft's prairie fanatics didn't get their guy until Goldwater in '64 (who I and my friends supported at the time). Gov. Earl Warren of California with its skyrocketing electoral college votes wanted the top spot which would have jeopardized Sen. Nixon of California being on the ticket. So the Republican fat cats laid down the law: Ike for Potus, Nixon as VP and Earl Warren as Chief Justice. Perfect.

The working press and liberals hated Nixon who hated the working press and liberals -- it was the chicken or the egg thingy. Nixon's bizarre wife Pat had got a mink coat from some Republican fat cat which was leaked to the press that ran with it all flags flying. As the Republican VP nominee in the campaign Nixon gave his career saving "Checkers Speech" live on national b&w TV for those who had TV. Nixon defended Pat, saying all she had before was a beat up old coat, that they struggled to make ends meet -- and they loved their dog Checkers who was lying down in front of the two of 'em on live TV nationally. It was sop and Americans ate it up with a big ladle. Nothing much has changed between then and now eh. Nothing at all in fact. Only the names change.

SCOTUS says Trump is above the law. He has free rein to do whatever he wants to anyone he wants and he can never be held accountable.

Yes, exploiting the law to destroy the Rule of Law.

Exploiting the Constitution to destroy the Constitution.

Exploiting democracy to destroy democracy.

Since 2017. Every Day. This is what Trump & MAGAs do.

The Founders never knew nor could they know that the 1789 Constitution they wrote is perfect for a fascist takeover of the United States. Indeed, fascism did not develop until after 1850 as one of the four "isms" of modern government: Capitalism, Fascism, Communism, Socialism.

Since 2017 MAGAs keep popping up saying what Trump is doing is legal; that what Trump is doing is Constitutional; that what Trump is doing is within his authority as Potus/C'nC -- and what Trump and MAGAs say and do is Free Speech. This is virtually always true, although Trump certainly does break things and push his limits.

So yes, the Constitution as written inadvertently by the Founders is perfect for a fascist takeover in the 21st century. Yes and as we see, 21st Century Uniquely American Fascism is impossible to stop by Constitutional means. In this century the Constitution is wide open to a dictator-tyrant to bamboozle the mass of people.

We are living in a post Constitutional society I'm afraid. More of the Constitution is gone than remains of it. It's core components have been nullified by MAGAs-Trump, since 2017.

It's during the fast and furious months since Jan. 20th however that the congress has become totally subservient to Trump. The Supreme MAGA Court has gone over to the Dark Side. The presidency is what Trump says it is and does with it. The institutions of the democratic society are being dissembled by its MAGA enemies within. The Rule of Law is on its deathbed.

Now that Trump and MAGAs have seized absolute power, authority and impact in Washington, they are done and finished with their years long exploitation of freedom of speech. Now that Trump and MAGAs are firmly in control it's time for 'em to end freedom of speech by their opposition.

Liberals meantime are hopeless and helpless with no end of this in sight or sound -- since 2015.

E Pluribus Fascists.

This post is so rife with TDS it's palpable, even through the screen.

Sure... but I don't recall Clinton or Bush giving marching orders to prosecute their perceived enemies. If there's predicate evidence to open an investigation, by all means go for it.... but you a President can't order Attorneys to go out and find it. That's an obvious abuse of power.

Please remind me of the last time government agencies orchestrated an attempted coup on a U.S. President after creating a document that was a complete lie and was intended to be the "evidence" against the candidate and President? In case your memory fails you it was Hillary Clinton's campaign, the Obama DOJ adn FBI and President Obama gave it the go ahead. Comey, Brennan, Clapper used their power to help spread the Steele Dossier in the attempt to ruin Trumps bid for the White House. Obama apparently gave Crossfire Hurrican the final OK and eventually the whole thing came to light. Comey even admitted he did things at the start of the Trump term that were inappropriate and violated FBI standards. The attempt to affect the election, to remove an elected President sure seems to me to be a treasonous act. Now if this moves forward with Comey we may see how the courts feel about it.

Congratulations! You have made the 100,000th post of a supposed TDS since 2015.

You get a glittering new TDS Golden Crutch to replace that worn and broken down one.

The bottom line though is that your post is the no-reply-defenseless-reply. It's a MAGA emperor has no clothes reply. You might want to check again with whoever it may be who's sending you out.

It seems like this is exactly what's happening. We'll have to wait if charges are filed, indictments executed, and evidence presented in the court of law.

And if, by chance, there's no case there, I'm sure DOJ would shut it down.
This is the sworn duty of the DOJ, not what you're intimating.

I'd rather have silencer for the endless TDS laden posts here, thanks.

Off into left field, extreme left field you go again. Sheesh.

Alas, it's another push button rote MAGA post.

"Left field" and so on.

And a "silencer" besides for a good measure eh. How ambiguous of you. Removing all doubt of course as if any doubt existed which does not. Never was any doubt about 21st Century Uniquely American Fascism and its long time intentions about "the left"and Democrats and democrats.

Yes which is yet another instance in years long events of Trump and MAGAs using the law to destroy the rule of law.

MAGA US Attorneys prosecuting people Trump orders 'em to prosecute.

It's like the notorious quote of Stalin that, show me the man and I'll show you the crime.

A further demonstration of how tenuous your grip on reality.
