Okay, so I went to "Messages" on Facebook to continue a girls' night out planning with four friends, and my Avast system will not longer let me access Messages. "Says Trojan Horse detected."

Has anyone ever had this happen? Is it possible there'd be a TH in residence on Facebook? WTF? Does this mean I'll never be able to access Messages again?

Strange, I'm a bit shocked that such a large site would experience trojans. After you get some more insightful replies, perhaps you could modify the Avast settings to allow FB.

It could be an avast issue. I used it for awhile and I had nothing but problems with it. Sometimes my screensaver coming on would set of the alarm bells--just a plain old windows standard screensaver mind you. Nothing that was downloaded.

I wish I could experience Trojans. But that's a different thing altogether.....

(and it definitely doesn't involve a horse)

Avast is pretty unreliable when it comes to detecting things. I use it and it tells me i'm under risk of infection from a File I CREATED :doh

That's pretty scary. Thank you very much for sharing that. I use Chrome, so it's one of those talked about. I haven't downloaded a specialty toolbar for it, though, and I installed the program a few years ago.

Still, it was something weird . . . I was glad to find that, by last night, I was able to access Messages without getting that message. Most peculiar.

Thank for your great post.

I haven't heard of the new one in the article, but there was a very clever banking trojan doing the rounds on facebook several years ago and to the best of my knowledge they never really provided a fix for it. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's still around today, albeit in a modified form.

I've never been able to figure out how to remove my google search tool from firefox though I have tried a couple time. I don't want anything like that. It got picked up in some update and now I cannot get rid of it. I am thinking of stopping to support Google altogether and just use Bing now that it has come out that they are a branch of the DHS in effect in protest.
