Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Monday said he will not allow President Donald Trump’s tax returns to be released to Congress, as a powerful oversight committee has requested.

In a letter to House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal, D-Mass., Mnuchin said that after conferring with the Justice Department, he has determined that the request “lacks a legitimate legislative purpose,” and that because of that the request would be denied.

Basically, Mnuchin and Barr are saying "Let's take this to court and see what they say". That's EXACTLY what they should do too.

Frankly, it kind of feels good to see an administration fight for justice and the rights of the American people.

Lol, they are only fighting this because it's the president. If congress had used this exact same 100% legal procedure to get your tax returns, Mnuchin and Barr wouldn't have even stepped in.

I love the Constitution.

I also love when people follow the law, and the law has been on the books since 1924. You'd know that if you watched the news and not Hannity.

Congress can look at my taxes any time they want. The Patriot Act gives the government the right to look in my underwear drawer if they want to. I never objected to that. But then again, unlike Trump, I'm not a con artist with something to hide.

It's a delaying tactic. By taking it to the courts, they can delay any release to after the election and with appeals and very friendly supreme court...till after he has served even his next term if he wins next year.

Why you all think he has been stacking the supreme Court with "good old boys" that will do his bidding?

It basically means that Trump is guilty as hell of financial improprieties that might not be illegal, but politically damning even to his base...
