McHugh again. /sigh
Talk about a stacked poll. As a transwoman, I have to admit that I, and the minimum of 700,000 like me, are the product of either mental disorder or a birth defect? We are neither defective or disordered.
Is it possible to rephrase? Just ask your question yes or no, without the editorialization?
Also, could you make the poll grammatically correct? Transgender is an adjective. You could ask "Do transgender people have a mental disorder?" You could also ask "Gender Dysphoria is a mental disorder?" Saying "Transgender is a mental disorder" is not coherent.
Of course, neither is McHugh but we can get to him if you can fix your poll.

This poll is from last year and it was made by a poster who is banned. Why did you bring this up?

Transgenderism certainly meets my definition of mental disorder. I'm not sure why so many people are against calling it one.

Of course it's a disorder. It's a mismatch of the brain and body. That's why we treat it with reassignment surgery. To help the person.

Inspired by another thread I offer this.
"Dr. Paul R. McHugh, the former psychiatrist-in-chief for Johns Hopkins Hospital and its current Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry, said that transgenderism is a “mental disorder” that merits treatment, that sex change is “biologically impossible,” and that people who promote sexual reassignment surgery are collaborating with and promoting a mental disorder."

My mistake for reactivating this thread. I will not participate in something so unfairly worded and rightly dead.
Do you think that ADD (having attention issues) is a Disorder but that a man thinking he is a woman is not a Disorder?

Time to broaden the mind, people. There's one thing that people have in common, and that's that they are all DIFFERENT - sorta like the only constant is change, y'know? Just because someone is different doesn't mean that he or she is 'defective' or has a 'mental disorder'. I am a strong Christian...but I also know that if the old saw, "God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" was really in accordance to His will, He would never have allowed naturally-born hermaphrodites to be born. I've heard the counter-argument that natural hermaphrodites are so incredibly rare that it doesn't make any difference, but my point is that if God allowed even one hermaphrodite to be naturally born, then it cannot be just "Adam and Eve".
We've all got things we'd like to change. Personally, I've got a moderate case of face blindness - and it sucks, and can be really, truly embarrassing. It can't be fixed at all, apparently. But at least with transgenderism, something CAN be done, so why not do something about it?
As in understand it, it's a disorder of sorts, and the "fix" depends on the decisions of the specific person - some might go for reassignment surgery, some might just be content with hormonal treatments, and some might not want to do anything for some reason...If it's not a disorder, then gender reassignment surgery is simply a cosmetic choice and should not be classed as medical treatment and not be taxpayer funded.
