Today is a day when trans folx remember those that have passed away or have been victims of anti-trans violence. In a year where many people do not feel safe, trans people continue to face all kinds of violence just simply for existing. So today I ask that you please spend a moment in silence to remember those that have passed away. No more than that if you don't mind, regardless of your politics please show respect to those that are victims of anti-trans violence.
What is Transgender Day of Remembrance?
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester’s death, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance."
