Trade deal made with China! (1 Viewer)

Obviously we can’t take Donald’s word for it since he lies about everything, so let’s wait to hear from China about whether a deal actually was made.
Not a peep from China yet. I'm thinking they want to let the US fall on their face when we find out there is no actual deal.

Bullshit?

Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent: “I’m happy to report that we made substantial progress between the United States and China in the very important trade talks. First, I want to thank our Swiss host. The Swiss government has been very kind in providing us this wonderful venue, and I think that led to a great deal of productivity we’ve seen. We will be giving details tomorrow, but I can tell you that the talks were productive. We had the vice premier, two vice ministers, who were integrally involved, Ambassador Jamieson, and myself. And I spoke to President Trump, as did Ambassador Jamieson, last night, and he is fully informed of what is going on. So, there will be a complete briefing tomorrow morning.”

U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer: “This was, as the Secretary pointed out, a very constructive two days. It’s important to understand how quickly we were able to come to agreement, which reflects that perhaps the differences were not so large as maybe thought. That being said, there was a lot of groundwork that went into these two days. Just remember why we’re here in the first place — the United States has a massive $1.2 trillion trade deficit, so the President declared a national emergency and imposed tariffs, and we’re confident that the deal we struck with our Chinese partners will help us to work toward resolving that national emergency.”

"Substantial progress"? "Great deal of productivity"? "Were able to come to agreement"?

Choose your own adventure...
  1. Progress towards a deal
  2. Agreement on a deal
  3. Announcement of the intention of a deal
  4. Concepts of a plan

Details to follow tomorrow?

some kind of deal...not a trade agreement though.. still that is VERY GOOD considering last week China was saying they wouldn't even talk!

The following article talks about how quickly they came to an agreement, yet no agreement is stated.

I suspect the agreement is to reduce tariffs and then talk trade and the issues....which is a good thing. The US needs until tomorrow to get the narrative straight after the debacle that was the announcement of the GB deal. Big difference here is China will not let them away with the spin GB did.

Make concessions, no confirmation from China, splash headlines - check.

"I partially undid the thing I did that pissed everybody off - yay me."

Translation: "OK, I'm done getting attention out of being a total asshole now, so I'm going to back off to just being a plain old big asshole."

Sounds like the "deal" was an agreement to continue to talk about a yet to be hammered out "deal".

A Substantial agreement could potentially mean that they merely agreed the current situation sucks. YMMV.

I am not waiting for Mondays announcent with giddy anticipation of something momentous happening. That much is for sure.

I can't imagine the announcement won't include a lowering of tariffs . That and future talks. That was China's going in demand. They will settle for nothing less to enter into actual trade talks.

Given the pressure to get something done, the important thing here is the detail in whatever agreement is reached. The US/UK deal is a perfect example, because the details of what's been agreed to have not been finalized.

Who wants to bet it's all bullshido?

Didn't Donnie 2 Dolls lie about a supposed trade deal with China a month ago only to have China deny it ever happened. I believe he said they were in constant comms with Chinese reps and the Chinese foreign minister said no they were not.

Whoever wrote that WhiteHouse.gov headline will probably get fired for deliberately giving the media some fake news to talk about.

There was no deal made.
