Over the years, in here, but also on other debate forums, you will get people claiming they are "experts" at something, have degrees in this or that, and have credentials that allow them to speak on a certain subject.

But............. this IS the internet. For those experts, it is commonly understood that the more you boast about your credentials the more important it seems that you have a need to convince us.

For example: I was, before I retired, a brain surgeon AND a rocket scientist. Now who here is going to say I wasn't? If I say I was, then I was. I would never lie or exaggerate. Not on the internet.

So, why do it?

It isn't a bad here as other places, for example YouTube where dozens of comments start out with: "As a XXX with YYY years of experience in the trade/profession I have seen countless cases of ZZZ. Then 'expert' analysis with recommended solutions will soon follows.

As a Master with 800 years of experience, over thousands of Jedi have I trained...

I don't find anything wrong with someone mentioning their experience/credentials when addressing someone who thinks he's an expert when it's painfully obvious that he is isn't. I think that sometimes people feel the need to use their experience/credentials to prove that they aren't pulling comments out of their derriers. That said, I understand that there are those who use their experience/credentials to insult people but they're pretty obvious and easy to shut down/ignore.

I think it my social responsibility to educate the dumbasses.
So I clicked on 6.An expect on a subject needs to spread his knowledge to strangers on a debate forum.
The poll will not accept my vote. ????

I don't think most people do unless asked.
I could give examples, try this thread........

OR brag about credentials they don't actually have.

I did it for you, but in order to do that, I had to go to "edit vote."

Not sure if I did something wrong here because mine are the only votes or some glitch in the system.

Calling ALL moderators!!!

I would be the worlds greatest ever baseball player if I decided to start playing.

I don't want to upset you guys by being a British guy who dominated the sport you love though as that would be impolite.

Yeah, but as you said, no way to tell unless one has the same credentials and can throw questions at the poster that only someone with the credential could credibly aswer.

You'd bury me in Cricket. In baseball my grandson would smoke you.

I don’t think I ever ran into that, credentialed that is. If so, I just spaced right over it.

Cricket has seen quite the increase in popularity in the US.
It's nowhere near as complicated as some seem to think it is and has fans all over the world.
The hub of the game is now India where it's huge and has vast amounts of money involved compared to the UK.

It's an interesting game. When I lived in Connecticut I had a lot of Jamaican friends who had a Cricket Club and I would watch their games, but I just never got involved.

I really enjoy a nice glass of Bourbon, then I more enjoy all the "experts" around here tell us the news.

The only thing I'm an expert at is being depressed.

I'll bring it up occasionally if it's relevant for some reason. It rarely is though.

Many years ago, 1981, as an Appalachian Trail thru-hiker, Georgia to Maine, I met a young and delightful English dentist, born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, a town renowned as the birthplace of William Shakespeare.

I had a good laugh 😂 when my English hiking friend explained that cricket games often went on for days only to end undecided due to rain.

Thats the test version of cricket which is for national sides.

There is faster version called Twenty20 cricket which also has a world cup and is over in about 3 hours total.
It's fast paced and brutal with massive hits and has become extremely popular.
The US just hosted the Twenty20 world cup last year.
