There's been plenty of talk this week about how the Gates/Crowley Affair has provided Americans with a "teachable moment". I don't believe we're limited to just one teachable moment per week and so I present the following important lessons taught by recent events and the people who instigated them:

5. We'll start with the event that brought "teachable moment" into the limelight - President Obama's "ill chosen" words that Cambridge police had acted "stupidly" regarding the arrest of a black Harvard scholar. I agree with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani on this one when he said, "He's [Obama's] actually right. It is teachable. Here's the lesson: Shut up." (source: GOP 12: Rudy on teachable moment: "Shut up")

4. Even with the majority of the mainstream media shilling for you, you can't sell a bad idea like Obamacare to the American people once they start getting the actual details of the plan. A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll found that more people think President Obama's health care proposal is a bad idea than a good one. (source: Support Slips for Obama's Health Plan, With Recess on Horizon - Political News - FOXNews.com)

3. Bluedog Democrats aren't really fiscal conservatives. They just play them on TV. Again according to Mr. Giuliani, "They're essentially either moderates or liberals in districts that require them to be that way. So they're doing a show, rather than coming from the heart." (source: GOP 12: Rudy on teachable moment: "Shut up")

2. What goes up must come down and will most likely continue to do so. (See the current job approval rating of President Barack Obama.)

And the number one teachable moment of the past week:

1. Following the lead of that great statesman Homer Simpson, "Mmmm beer" is now a legitimate political doctrine.
