Perhaps the solution is for the EU to allow each member state to conduct their own individual trade negotiations.
Then there is no EU anymore.View attachment 67582303
Perhaps the solution is for the EU to allow each member state to conduct their own individual trade negotiations.
von der Leyen is the symptom, not the problem. The EU model of a green paradise, open borders, short work weeks is not sustainable. The EU of today is more the decadent gilded world of Marie Antoinette than the hard competitive world of Otto von Bismarck
The Marshall Plan was a benefit to many European countries, but it has outlived its usefulness. Some European countries don't want to give it up, though.
Too bad. Trump is ending it one way or another.
“While the deal has avoided a much worse outcome for now, it remains to be seen whether it will last,” said Jack Allen-Reynolds, Deputy Chief Euro-zone Economist of Capital Economics, adding that Germany will be hit harder the most countries. The fine details of the deal may not yet have been agreed. And President Trump could still change his mind even after the deal has been finalised and signed.” Although the 15 percent tariff is only half of what Trump had threatened, the deal will still disappoint many European leaders who already criticised the UK’s acceptance of 10 percent US tariffs in May as a poor outcome. Trump had previously warned that tariffs could rise to 30 per cent if no agreement was reached by August 1. "Today’s deal creates certainty in uncertain times . . . for citizens and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic,” von der Leyen said. While Chancellor Friedrich Merz welcomed the avoidance of a trade war, Wolfgang Niedermark, board member of the Federation of German Industries, called the agreement “an inadequate compromise” with “painful tariffs” likely to harm Germany’s export-driven industry.

What has the working culture got to do with this?
This may amaze you but not everyone is completely obsessed with work and making money.
The idea that the French will give up their working culture for anything is simply laughable.
Even the UK has a much more relaxed work culture and we have zero desire to adopt the US style of work.
Its an increasingly tough world. Of the competitors like the US, Eu, China, other Asian countries... the Eu seems to be the one least psychologically prepared to play hard ball. Heck, what to make of a Marie Antoinette that does not have the balls to control its own borders? It is symptomatic of the European situation that it refuses to man its own borders, because it pretends to be the Garden of Eden, but will pay Turks and Libyans to do the dirty job.
Zero desire to work? How Marie Antoinetteish! There are consequences to living like Marie Antoinette. While you sleep Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, Indians... are working round the clock.
At least Herr Merz is emerging from the Garden
Lmao it's crazy how every criticism you have of the EU are positive things.
And then to compare to the world of French Monarchy while that is literally the world you worship. A world of economic extremes and haves and have-nots.
Europeans are fine with being slightly poorer if it means we aren't treated like shit and expected to work ourselves to death simply to earn enough to survive.
What's the point of life if you spend the vast majority of it at work for people who don't give a single shit about you?
Europeans do work, they simply work to live rather than Americans who live to work.
I prefer the former strategy.
I have to question that assessment. French Labour unions don't act like they are settling for a poorer life
The question is whether it is an affordable luxury in a world to be dominated by hard working Asians
Yes, unions fighting for as much as they can, what a bunch of selfish bastards.
Why oh why can't they get with the program and let Companies take the absolute piss and treat staff like slaves, oh the horror!!
If Asians want to work themselves to death then that's entirely up to them.
Europe will continue being Europe.
You are the one claiming Europeans don't mind being slightly poorer. The Labour unions disagree with you.
You are in competition with Asians.
Yep, we are in competition and we are doing fine.
If getting 10% more sales means we have to undo a century of advancement in worker rights then we'll be fine without that extra 10%.
Yes, I support unions fighting for their employees and I don't have this odd worship of companies and management that many Americans have.
Perhaps the solution is for the EU to allow each member state to conduct their own individual trade negotiations.
Trump is ending it one way or another.
in a world to be dominated by hard working Asians
Herr Merz doesnt appear to think so. And in the UK folks dont appear to be happy with Labour either
Rights or benefits? And what happens to those benefits when defense is upped to 5% of GDP to fight Russia?
If you support unions then you cant turn around and claim Europeans are not obsessed with money
For **** sake.. the Marshall Plan was 80 years ago and has not existed for at least 70. Your pedophile demented President and his followers have zero grip on history, economics or common ****ing sense. We live in an American inspired capitalist society, that came out of the ****ing Marshall Plan, and that has benefited US corporations to dominate industries for decades and they still do. Oil, Banking, and much more is dominated by American companies. Our lifestyles in Europe, is based off American TV and foods. From Coca Cola to Johnson&Johnson dominating what we put in our shopping carts. The Marshall Plan has been paid back many many times over.. especially with the TRILLIONS of dollars that the US has leant from Europe the last 40 years to maintain its over glutinous consumer society built on debt on debt. The Marshall Plan was a benefit to many European countries, but it has outlived its usefulness. Some European countries don't want to give it up, though.

She will last as long as there is no alternative that can be agreed too.German politicians furious at von der Leyen over new EU-US trade deal
She's getting flack now from all directions. I wonder how long she can last.
