Tough decision at the moment. Recap, lost 13 yo Black Lab back in March. (Now) 15 yo old Yorkie, who hasn't eaten 'dog food' since about 2 weeks after, I think she needs a friend. She lives on treats and whatever she wants..

Ordering out, you get your own 6 peice plain chicken wings. No worries, I got it! 😂 😔
Will not eat dog food.(Fresh Pet, whatever. Doesn't matter..)

Getting up there, but still spunky when she wants to be. But I know she misses her buddy which she used to snuggle with.
90lbs vs 7lbs. Best buds after a time. He was protective, and would eat a threat. But was careful if she was near under-foot.

The kicker is, 15+yo Yorkie, 73 yo live in mother while we are gone to work all day.

I can't ensure even with crating, or what have you, that my mother is not going to let them get mixed up.
I can hear the call now.... "I was just letting them..."

Ain't happening. She's old(the dog!😃),and in no shape to deal with a rambunctious pup without close supervision until used to.

But it's about time, and I think the right friend may do her some good for her remaining time.

Just wants to ly snuggled in her blanky and snooze. I mean, look at that face!

About time for a friend.

She needs a friend. When it is her time, their bond will heal the hole in your heart that she leaves behind.

Our dog, a Shih Tzu, about 15 years old prefers chicken breast, pork tenderloin, and cheddar cheese.
This Yorkie prefers everything she shouldn't have! If it's bad for her, she's on it!

Or I have to smoke something 3-4 hours. Oh, she scarfs that **** down!
Picky little *****. 😂

Her name is Little Bit, so it's natural to call her a Little ....😃

Agree, but it's the 'household' issue.

This Yorkie is definitely unique, as she has always had a balance issue that could not be nailed down.
With age...

Can't have 'unsupervised' interaction. Wouldn't take much for a young pup to injure her.

Main concern is my mother not adhering what the hell I say.
I don't care how cute it is, you're not letting them get mixed up.

Ours is spoiled too, and prefers to hand fed.
We call ours DoahLek which basically means small as she was the smallest of 7 we had and she is the last one surviving. Five were lost being bit by cobras, and one recently died of old age under a Tamarind tree in the back yard where she liked to go.

What about another small dog pup? You probably only have another year or two with "Yorkie", so the new one becomes her replacement, and then you get the bigger dog once Yorkie passes, but while the new small pup is still full of piss and vinegar, and good for some rough and tumble.

About time for a friend.
She's a sweetie. I had two dogs that reached old age, and both of them loved chicken and rice....vet recommended.

Very easy to bake some chicken thighs, cook some rice, and open a can of chicken stock. Would last a week. I'd put some of each in a bowl, microwave to warm it, and bring out aroma, and they loved it. Give it a try.

It's a tough call. Ideally, any new pups in the picture might better have been introduced 4 or 5 years ago already. I know it might sound strange, but a small kitten might make a more suitable, less taxing new friend.

Senior toy dogs can be challenging, I know. Sounds like this baby is depressed, and her diet is not conducive to her health. I lost a 16 year old Pomeranian a few years back who just decided to stop eating. The only food she would eat that was healthy was Farmer's Dog. It's a bit pricey, but it's human grade, and at the time I had 3 toys on it, no one turned up their little noses. It comes frozen in individual packs that are pre-portioned. You can order it online, and I'm pretty sure you can order a trial pack that comes with a money-back guarantee. Just a thought. Best of luck finding a companion; might be better to choose an older dog without the "puppy" energy level. Around here, there are rescue sites that specialize in pairing up new pets with existing pets based on age/temperment. The very best of luck to you!

Wife couldn't take enough Claritin to keep from sneezing around cats.

Yeah, her diet is terrible, but have tried pretty much everything. Not farmers dog, but about every type of fresh pet.
Won't touch it.

Still just mulling over bringing in a new friend. Just don't know what. Another large dog? Small?...
We will definitely, at one point have another toy Yorkie though.

I bet there is a middle aged or senior dog at a shelter near you who could also use a friend and some chicken nuggies.

I’d take a tour and see if any of them catch your fancy and then arrange a meet and greet and get that cutie a snuggle buddy and friend to share yummy treats with.

Put out some feelers to shelters and rescues to find an older dog used to children and older humans.

I can’t go in those places. I also avoid PetSmart when they have adoption day. I want to bring them all home!

Yeah, I keep joking that one day I'm going to open a rescue after I get through this parenting and taking care of old people chapter of life. My husband doesn't seem amused by that idea. LOL.

I couldn’t foster either. We picked our last rescue from a guy that cycled multiple puppies in a few weeks at a time. I become too attatched.

She's a smart one who knows what she likes. :)

That's why I used the chicken broth, after eating the chicken she'd lap up the broth along with some very wet rice...

I'm down to 3 rescues. I usually take in older dogs to foster. I lost my 14-year-old Blue Tick-Plott a few weeks ago. I'm still mourning her and waiting a while before I take in another. I urge anyone with extra love to adopt an older dog. The reward in spoiling them for their faithful companionship is a blessing.

Parrish, you are wonderful! Being open to taking in an older dog is as good as it gets! The last rescue I took in came from a place that didn't house any dogs on site, they were all fosters. I adopted a gal who was spayed, microchipped , and totally socialized. She was 7 months old but fragile, and ready to be placed with a family of multiple dogs of multiple ages, and I've never regretted getting her. She's 5+ now, and no regrets. She co-exists with 2 senior toy breed dogs beautifully. The thing I loved about this rescue was there ability to know how to pair these babies up with their new homes and new peeps/pets. Bless you sweetheart!

The hardest part is knowing that with older dogs their time may be limited but knowing that their previous owners had the heart wrenching decision to give them up and go into an assisted living or memory care facility and the dog's transition to a new home without their human. If I can meet the owners, I ask questions about foods they like, behaviors like fear of loud noises and strangers, socialization with other animals, and sleeping/potty habits. Most importantly I promise to bring their companion to visit or have zoom calls. Bless you, @Jessie C for opening your heart.
