Republicans seem to have a double standard when it comes to law and order.

When people protested in the streets over police mistreatment of blacks, Republicans derided the protests; and supported law enforcement.

When people violently attacked the Capitol and attacked police, causing severe and lasting injuries, Republicans downplayed the severity of it and resisted or ignored any investigation into what happened.

When law enforcement conducted a legally warranted search of a suspect's home in a matter of missing sensitive national secrets, Republicans became critical of law enforcement.

Is law and order something Republicans only support when it is convenient, but disparage when not?

Republican? There is no such thing. There are only people maddened by their failure and led poisoning.

People who think Trump is the reason for all their problems should do a little more self examination. He isn't raising your taxes or energy costs.

I think it is time to focus more on actions and speech than being judgemental.

People are disappointed in Trump for a variety of reasons. I have not heard anyone say that Trump is the reason for all their own problems.

They've already acted, they've already spoken.

Twice they acted, and this was the second time in a Century.

They judge me, so therefor I judge them.

Our tax cuts sunset, his and his wealthy peers’ do not.

That tells you everything you need to know.

And don’t try to divert. His legislation sunsets your tax cut. Trump did this to you.

So, if someone else does something wrong, that somehow makes OK to do the same thing?

I disagree.

Something is wrong for a reason. Calling out a wrong thing as being wrong, and then observing someone else doing the wrong thing, does not then make the wrong thing somehow right to then do the same thing which one had previously called out as being wrong.

Wrong is wrong.

More wrong is still wrong.

Michelle Obama put it nicely.

"When they go low, we go high."

Post #8 got me to thinking about our responses to others in here; and seeing that - what we have been doing in America with our politics - might possibly be improved.

Ya think?

I think the best way to mend our politics would be to focus more on actions and less on who is doing them. Sure, there are good people and bad people; but few people are all good or all bad. People are capable of being both good and bad. The whole we/they thing is a real dead end argument. All it does is promote anger, hatred and more bitter polarization. It paralyzes our politics.

We could do something about that. Each of us can act and be more like what we want our nation to be. We are America.

We could have more effective political discussions if instead of being judgemental, that we focused on the actions instead. Such as doing the right thing; or doing the wrong thing.

Doing the right thing is not always pleasant. Sometimes it involves watching as others do wrong, and are properly called out for it, and then the wrongdoers do not say: "Oh, Pardon me. We will not do that wrong thing again." No. In all likelihood, the wrongdoers then attack those who would call them out for it.

This does not make a retaliatory attack OK.

Doing so would lower the retaliatory attacker to the level of the wrongdoers.

Meting out justice is the job of the government.

People doing the right thing should continue doing the right thing. And they should understand there is frequently no thanks for doing so. And sometimes there is even an unpleasant downside, because people doing wrong might attack them.

People who do the right thing and get attacked for it without responding are the true heroes of our society. Our society would be worse if we had fewer instances of people doing the right thing.

Each person doing the right thing knows when they are doing it that they are doing their best for America.

People live in societies.

We all live in a big one called America. Amazing people got this country going a long time ago. Now the responsibility falls on us to keep it going. Together.

I call out this double-standard of Republicans who say lies are not what their party stands for, but then they vote for the lies.

Everybody knows the Big Lie is a lie. There is the truth of a properly certified election, and the lie that it was fraudulent. Fraudulent elections are allowed some time to file any grievances in court. That time duration came and passed without any meritorious charge being sustained in any court which deemed the election fraudulent in any state or overall.

Since the courts all ruled it a valid election, with many of the judges even being appointed by Donald Trump himself, it was officially validated and certified.

Trump lost.

To vote for any candidate repeating the Big Lie is to vote for a lie. That hurts America. That's not America First. That is "Republicans first."

How can Republicans who vote for a lie claim their Party is the Party of Law and Order?

They cannot.

Because the truth is that Donald Trump lost.

The mighty Casey has struck out.

It is time to end this, mend this, and mend America.

If the enemy kills, you kill, doesn't mean you use all their tactics.

Deflection. NOT the topic of this thread.

Is law and order something Republicans only support when it is convenient, but disparage when not?
.Quite plainly - Yes.
That is part and parcel of what is "right and wrong" to conservatives.

What serves them (selfishly) is right..
..what does not, is wrong.

Selfishness is the cornerstone of conservatism.

Like the Democrat version of “no one is above the law?” They’re all hypocrites and if these manufactured conflicts didn’t exist then people would rapidly lose what little interest they have in politics.

Enemy?!? Who is this 'enemy?' This discussion is about how the Republican party claims to be for law and order, but displays inconsistency in that claim depending on who is suspected of lawbreaking.

American politics has become entirely too polarized. Republicans, Democrats, and others are not 'enemies.' We are fellow Americans. We need to work together to solve the issues we face together. We need to remember we all live in this nation together. The whole we/they thing has become far too overblown.

Remember. It needs to be less about being judgemental and more about discussing ideas. Less about the other, more about the concepts discussed. Small minds discuss other people. Great minds discuss ideas. We need more people to transcend above talking about others and instead talking about ideas. We need more people to be great-minded.

Some people act as if their fellow Americans are enemies, but that is not the case. Some of us go online and talk about politics. (An extremely small percentage of Americans do so.) Some who talk online are immature and act disrespectful, mean, unpleasant. So what? Rise above that. Just ignore them. They are not enemies. They are just messed up and probably can't have functional relationships IRL. Put them on ignore. Do not engage or give them the feedback they are looking for. Doing so is where it goes downhill and becomes an abuser/enabler situation. And that can go two ways. It's not mentally healthy to do that.

Avoid such messed up behavior. There is no 'fixing' messed up minds. People have to figure things out for themselves if they are too hung up on the we/they thing. There is nothing anyone else can say to help them. Just be the best person you can be and keep your distance from bad/rude behavior. That is the best course.

They do seem to be overly preoccupied with their own situation, and not very concerned with the overall and long ranging consequences of their actions.

How does thinking primarily of oneself make America great?

It is only logical that if one wishes to make America great, one should be thinking of what policy proposals mean to America. And it is also logical that such thinking would include concern for all Americans of various cultures and wealth.

Law and order needs to apply to everyone and all situations. It cannot be selectively applied depending on who is suspected of a crime.

OMG! What are you, a socialist? thinking of other people.
Take the Libertarian view and owe nothing to anyone but yourself.
Line your nest with the finest down feathers you can gather by whatever means, and worry not who perishes from the cold outside.

You got yours, what else matters?

This is a long standing hypocrisy with them. Rebel against the government while empowering the enforcement arm of the state.

Simply because they are a party of order whatever that order may be. Law and order has nothing intrinsically to do with justice.

An interest in politics focused on conflict is a shallow interest at best. It would be better if our education institutions properly taught young students about American politics from the beginning, and taught them why it is important.

Our self-government depends on the active engagement of a well-informed populace.

We should not be interested in politics for entertainment. We all have a responsibility to preserve and improve this nation. We are very fortunate to be Americans. Some amazing people did incredible things long ago to create this nation. We now have far too many Americans who take America for granted. People need to understand there is no guarantee that America will always be here. It is up to us to protect this nation. All of us.

Some choose to have nothing to do with politics. Others get into politics for the wrong reasons, selfish reasons. We who cherish this nation deeply have to go up against apathy and antipathy, yes. Nobody ever said or promised that doing one's part, a citizen's share, to be a truly good American was easy. Hint: It's more than flag-waving and watching fireworks on the 7-4.
