These states are America’s worst for quality of life in 2025

Is this from The Onion?

If you rate and measure using woke criteria, what exactly do you expect?
You didnt read it.

"Each year, CNBC's annual rankings of state business climates — America's Top States for Business —considers Quality of Life among ten categories of competitiveness. Under this year's methodology, the category makes up 10.6% of a state's overall score. We consider factors like crime, health care, air quality, and the price and availability of child care. We also consider inclusiveness of state laws, such as legal protections against discrimination. And with data showing younger workers considering reproductive rights in their choice of where they are willing to live, we factor those state laws in our rankings as well."

Someone's opinion.
More than just somones opinion.

Yeah, high crime and poor healthcare are red state values, eh?

Most of these states fall on just about everybody's list for poor quality of life, usually because of high crime, poor healthcare, poverty, poor economy and poor education.... Other than maybe Utah, which has a decent quality of life, none of the states included should be a surprise to anyone...

Here are some others.... look for the chronic cellar dwellers (Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico and Texas are frequently mentioned on these lists):

Inclusion, reproductive rights? Seriously... How do you think they score these criteria? This is clearly a politically biases rating. End of story.

Inclusiveness, reproductive rights??
Sure this is an objective study, isn't it? NOT!

Try reading the article.

"American business is in the grips of a serious labor shortage, even though hiring has slowed and artificial intelligence is picking up more of the slack.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce says that for every 100 job openings, only 92 workers are available to fill them. That means the nation is short about 1 million workers. To try and meet the demand, companies are seeking locations that are attractive to prospective employees. That makes quality of life a business imperative.

Prospective employees care about those things, dont want to move to places that dont have them

No, it's just their opinion. They selected the criteria by which they would judge the states, on the basis of their opinion as to importance.

Yeah it's all political criteria, with a distinct partisan lean as to what is "good".

OMG, this is truly sad, watching such sad responses, when other measures included...............

factors like crime, health care, child care, air quality

But those upset by the study had to find two things to whine about while hoping the rest of us would ignore the other factors.

Why not deal with the actually data and information? Nah, easier just to whine.

After reading the headline and delving further into the article, I got to wondering how members of a certain demographic would react.........

Well well, no surprise there.

What demographic is that, that you pre-judged?

All it take is a few data points to swing the ratings. The whole presidential election was swung by a few data points. It's all just cherry picking the criteria and weighting, adding numbers, and comparing the sums. And what do you know.... you get the exact answer you want.

That's right. What kind of a ranking considers freedom to be a quality of life factor? Dumb ranking. Everybody knows women love having their bodies controlled by the state. Forced pregnancies should be on every young woman's list when considering where to live.

Agreed, I would not want to live in any of these states. They seem more appropriate for @dmpi.

Interesting yet predictable that the righties would react as they did to a center-right website. Nothing other than far-right nonsense is acceptable to them.

Which is why those red states are such shitholes.

Actually, those righties have a point. Look at which Red States are not on the list. Aspersions might more appropriately target most southern states rather than their political leanings, but then click on the associated article. Texas, for example, with its failing quality of life score ranks number 2 for business. California is 22nd and New York is 23rd. What conclusions might we draw from that?

Here's the list of failing quality of life states with their alleged weaknesses attached.
Oklahoma - crime, health, reproductive rights
Arkansas - health, crime, inclusiveness
Alabama - inclusiveness, worker protections
Georgia - Worker Protections, Health, Inclusiveness
Louisiana - Crime, Inclusiveness, Reproductive Rights
Utah - Child Care, Worker Protections, Air Quality
Indiana - Child Care, Reproductive Rights, Inclusiveness, Air Quality
Texas - Health Care, Reproductive Rights, Worker Protections, Crime
Tennessee - Crime Rate, Inclusiveness, Worker Protections

Not just opinion.

So they consider other opinions when formulating their own. 😆

Give it up. It's opinion.

Someone's opinion.

There's a degree of subjectivity, but I suppose values are subjective. One thing a lot of these states have in common is a history of institutionalized racism, a refusal to acknowledge their past, resultant, persistent economic & social inequality, comparatively poor education across the entire population, and perennially high violent crime. I'm sure you can find some similar circumstances in 'blue' cities, but at the statewide level, many of these states have had these kinds of systemic issues for years and will continue to have them, because they're not interested in dealing with them.
