There Should Be No Divisions Among You!

One can say all day long there should be no divisions, but it is clearly otherwise.

This is completely true……the path to union with God is totally individual….it is an inner evolution…..religion being perhaps the last attachment that must be surrendered….does anyone seriously think that there are churches or religions in what they call heaven ? Some people should start hoping that reincarnation is true…..:)

For a Christian shunning would surely rank as one of the worst of sins……..it indicates conditional love and any tampering with love is a rejection of the 2 great commandments. Those that have lost their freedoms to certain churches often have to be deprogrammed…..simple escape is not enough….the virus must be dealt with…
Yet, it is scriptural...cherry picking is not for the true follower of Christ...if you don't accept what a certain group believes/teaches, then it's time to move on to "greener pastures" instead of being angry/vengeful/spiteful...don't cha think?

Jehovah's Witnesses themselves were the result of various disagreements from the larger Bible Student movement.
And that is the thing to do, instead of seeking revenge...move on and start your own group for Bible studies...

It depends though on why and how a member is shunned.

A member who rebelliously flaunts his sinning ways and has ignored the counselling of elders should be removed.
That's in the bible.

What does the Bible say about shunning?

To shun is to deliberately avoid something or someone. In the Bible, the word shun is applied to evil. The Lord said that His servant Job was “blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil” (Job 1:8).
Job himself confessed that “the fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding” (Job 28:28).
The Bible advises us, “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil” (Proverbs 3:7–8).
“A wise man fears the Lord and shuns evil” (Proverbs 14:16). So, shunning evil is good.

In religious and ecclesiastical contexts, shunning is a form of church discipline against a person who has violated church rules.
Shunning involves a formal decision by a church that bans interaction with the person being shunned.
The extent and duration of the shunning vary among the various groups that practice it. Shunning is often associated with Amish and Mennonite groups, but it is also employed by other churches.
Certain cults and traditional societies (such as in Bali) practice severe forms shunning that can lead to whole families being ostracized from all aspects of society.

Other passages of Scripture also teach excommunication and the breaking of close association (Matthew 18:15–17; 2 Thessalonians 3:14).

However, besides the command not to eat with the man in Corinth, no specifics on the practice of shunning are given in the Bible.
Even in 1 Corinthians 5:11, the extent of the shunning is not entirely clear: was Paul referring to the Lord’s Supper, which he discusses in 1 Corinthians 11?
Was the command a cultural reference to showing acceptance and fullness of fellowship?

In any case, it would seem that extreme forms of shunning, such as considering someone “dead,” utterly ignoring him, or refusing to acknowledge his existence, go beyond what Scripture commands.
After all, Jesus said that, when someone is put out of the church, he should be treated as “a pagan or a tax collector” (Matthew 18:17).
In other words, treat an intractable offender as an unsaved person.
How are we to treat the unsaved? With love and grace.
The “pagans and tax collectors” need to be evangelized. We are to love even our enemies (Matthew 5:44).

Yes of course they were addressed to Jews only. You have to remember that God commanded Jews to perform the atrocities of war…..death, rape, infantcide etc. It was Jesus that made them universal when he said the 2 great commandments contained and superseded all previous commandments. Of course the 2 commandments require one to understand love which is too complicated for some…….thus we have the 10 commandments plastered in courtrooms and schools….. 2 is better than 10 IMO…..10 is like trying to name all sins and know-it-alls would be tempted to add more…..

Cain was condemned by GOD for murder.
That was before the 10 Commandments were given.

Yes, the tablet was given to the Jews......but that changes when Jesus came to us to save mankind.
My point, even gentiles have the sense of right and wrong regardless whether they believe in God or not, because man is made in the image of God.

God will do the "de-prgramming" the same way that He's the One who actually does the conversion.
Being BORN AGAIN, will do that.

All we can do is to pray for the person, and try to help him see, and understand what is written. The Spirit will do the rest.

That is a good rule to follow in this world but "no divisions among you" was the admonition given, regarding strictly members of the Christian congregation...

In 1 Corinthians 1:10, the apostle Paul urges believers to “agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you.” By saying there should be “no divisions among you,” Paul encourages believers to be united as the church as they share the gospel throughout the world.

In the first century AD, the church at Corinth was wrought with factions and divisions. The church was split over which leader or early missionary was their favorite and who they thought was most important to follow.
Some preferred Paul while others preferred Apollos or Peter, mostly based on their speaking styles (see “wisdom” and “eloquence” in 1 Corinthians 1:17). Instead of being united under Christ, they were divided over their preferred leader. So, to push back against this temptation to divide, Paul commands them to be agree with one another and to not let there be divisions among them.

Finally, perhaps the biggest reason why believers should not let there be divisions among them is that it hurts their witness to the world in revealing who God is.
In John 17, just before Jesus was arrested and crucified, He prayed to God the Father for all believers throughout history: “May they all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I am in you.
May they also be in us, so that the world may believe you sent me” (John 17:21). In other words, Jesus prayed for all those who follow Him to be united in order to help the world believe who He is, the Son of God.
So when there are divisions among us as believers, it hinders our ability to show the world who God is and what He is like—the perfectly united Triune God.

Believers in Christ should not allow personal preferences related to politics, education styles, sports, favorite speakers, or anything else divide them, especially to the point that they are known more for
what they disagree on than what they agree on.

Christians should first and foremost be known as a unified group of people who worship and praise Jesus as the Son of God who came to die for the sins of the world.
