TENERIFE, ISLAS CANARIAS.- The victims of a Spanish pedophile network that had its epicenter in Cuba for more than two decades are depending on the collaboration of the governments for both countries so justice can prevail.
"We have various photos of Cuban boys, but it is difficult to identify them because there is absolutely no collaboration and not international agreement with Cuba that allows us to send an investigative commission and conduct an investigation there," said Teseida Garica, the prosecution's representative in immigration matters in Las Palmas.
The Prosecutors in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, submitted the case back in May before the highest Spanish judicial court, the National Audience (AN), which will decide whether to take the case or dismiss it.
"We have the photos and the statements from those charged, and we have sent them to the Audience (AN). And I understand that in spite of the fact those children were not identified with names and dates of birth, looking at the case in whole and the investigation that has already taken place, it is possible to determine that they were not of legal age," assured Garcia in a statement to Café Fuerte.
In the case that the AN decides to proceed with the case, the entire investigation will be transferred to Madrid, since crimes that take place outside the country have to be investigated by the highest authorities of the country.

Miami, Florida – Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) commented on the State Department’s 2011 Trafficking in Persons Report, which once again designates Cuba as the lowest ranking (Tier 3), which is defined as a country that does not comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking.
Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:
“The State Department’s 2011 Trafficking in Persons report once again classifies Cuba as one of the worst nations in the area of human and sex trafficking. This designation as a Tier 3 country under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act should trigger the administration's reversal of its support for educational and cultural exchanges with Cuba.
"Any Cuba watcher knows that the Havana regime has no intention of eliminating trafficking in or from Cuba. In fact, it relies on this immoral practice to sustain its tyrannical ways. Child prostitution is a common profit-making scheme by the regime and Cuban doctors are used as mere pawns by the dictatorship to repay its debts to other countries.
"Having recognized Cuba's deplorable record on human trafficking, it is reprehensible that the administration would continue to make it a priority to advance educational and cultural exchanges with Cuba. In light of the State Department’s own designation, I call on the Administration to reverse its position."
Cuba has been compare to Thailand as a “paradise of sex tourism” (Sex Tourism and Child Prostitution in Cuba, Redirecting...). There is a very simple answer to the problem of prostitution: change the Castroit regime and the problem for the most part will solve itself, since the women will no longer need to prostitute themselves out of necessity. This is the result of the poverty created by 54 years of dictatorship.

Known for trafficking girls from Cuba to the United Kingom, Madanat had no qualms about openly discussing how he lured 10- and 11-year-old girls into the sex trade. In order to fight human trafficking, the State Department annually presents its Global Trafficking in Persons Report, a survey of 184 countries that measures compliance with human trafficking regulations specified in the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA).
The 2011 Report places Cuba and Venezuela on the Tier 3 list.

A transgender woman has quit her job at a government-run sex studies center headed by the daughter of Cuban ruler Raúl Castro, alleging that Mariela Castro accused her of disloyalty because of her relationship with a gay opposition activist.
Castro “challenged my life, (asking) why am I with my man?” said Wendy Iriepa, 37, who added that she handed in her resignation Thursday to the National Sex Education Center in Havana (CENESEX), which Castro heads.
Iriepa was a long-time fixture at the center: the first to benefit from Castro’s push for government approval of sex-change surgeries and steady participant in center-organized events for Cuba’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.
Castro, who directs CENESEX, has long been known as an advocate for LGBT rights and widely credited with lobbying the government to crack down on discrimination against gays and offer benefits to LGBT community members.
But a small group of gays has accused her of monopolizing the LGBT rights movement, demanding total loyalty to her father’s government and blocking efforts to establish gay rights groups that are independent of the government-run CENESEX.
On June 28, a small group of independent gays and lesbians known as the Observatory for LGBT Rights strolled down a Havana boulevard to mark Gay Pride Day. That’s a day Castro has refused to celebrate, arguing that such a protest is not necessary in Cuba.
The truth is that it is extremely rare for someone that young to die suddenly, overnight, in a police station, and don’t practice and autopsy on the decease to determine the cause of dead. Over the past year, there has been much hoopla over a series of conciliatory statements toward Cuba's gay community made by the daughter of dictator Raul Castro and head of the regime's sex ministry, Mariela Castro. In addition, the press went wild with the recent "gay marriage" that took place in Havana, pointing to the event as a watershed moment in the gay rights movement in communist Cuba.
The media and various "Cuba Experts" lauded the totalitarian dictatorship of Cuba for its "embrace" of gay rights, and cited Mariela Castro's statements and the "gay wedding" as proof that the tyrannical dictatorship of the Castro brothers is moving in the right direction. However, it is apparent that the "reforms" and "embrace" of gay rights were short-lived.

Since the early years of the Cuban revolution, the government claimed as one of its shining achievements the elimination of prostitution. In reality of course, it lingered on; but through the provision of job opportunities and training for former prostitutes, the revolution did go a substantial way to eliminating the sex trade relative to its documented abundance during the pre-revolutionary era.
Spending time in Cuba in 2011, one cannot but be alarmed by the frequency one notices young Cubans, often no more than 14 or 15 years old, fraternising with European and Canadian tourists of a certain age. Disturbingly, this hustling or “jineterismo” of foreigners often camouflages a more basic sex-for-cash transaction.

HAVANA TIMES, Dec 16, 2011 — In spite of not having been allowed to organize independently to articulate and defend their interests, Cuban women benefited in some ways from the revolutionary process. Some traditional forms of patriarchal sexism have become weakened, such as the power of husbands at home.
Women’s incorporation into the labor force and the occasional implementation of affirmative action policies have led to a much greater occupational differentiation and to a larger number of women playing prominent roles in the economy and society.
However, the opposite has been the case for Cuban gays, who have suffered greatly, particularly during the first thirty years of the revolutionary period. For reasons that will be elucidated later on, the Cuban government forced gays out of the closet and politicized their situation to significantly increase their oppression.
As part of this process, the revolutionary leadership created a climate of opinion that not only dismissed gay oppression as a legitimate issue but also portrayed gay life as a symptom of social decay
For example, when in 1967 the British House of Lords accepted the Wolfenden Report and abolished the UK’s laws against sodomy, the Cuban press portrayed the event as a further example of the decline of the British empire. Bohemia, Cuba’s most influential magazine, marked the beginning of the gay liberation movement in the United States with a cartoon portraying, in a derogatory manner, two men getting married in a church ceremony.160
A long series of events are “high” points of the decades-long trajectory of the persecution of gay Cubans by the revolutionary government. As early as 1962, the government conducted a massive raid known as the “night of the three Ps,” that is, prostitutas (female prostitutes), proxénetas (pimps), and pájaros (birds, one of the many derogatory Cuban terms for gay men). The raid netted thousands of people who were arrested and taken to police stations and city jails.
