The World’s Biggest Airplanes

A "swipe" graphic is at the link above. The largest airplane is the Antonov An-225 Mriya (Dream) made in Ukraine.

It is mesmerizing to watch massive planes take off. I have a decent understanding of the physics behind it, but it still looks “magical”.

It was built to transport the Buran space shuttle, which only flew once. They have been on and off building a second Mriya, but it really doesn't get much work, only for transporting really big stuff. Airbus has the Beluga, and Boeing has the Starlifter to do its big cargo stuff.

The aircraft finds work. Last month it transported four huge power generators and turbine's from São Paulo, Brazil, to Santiago, Chile.
