Tomorrow we'll get the August jobs report. Since Trump has not installed a stooge at BLS yet, not sure what we can expect.
 
When businesses don’t know what to expect, they dial back on hiring

I don’t know how anyone with common sense or business sense would have expected a different outcome.

Trump will likely fire more people (if he can) for poor reports around how great the economy and job market is.
 
Cannot emphasize this enough. Besides the very direct impact Trump's policies have had on the economy, an indirect impact is companies are basically in a holding pattern waiting for SOMETHING to happen. For decades Republicans demanded the country be run like a business, we're here and it's a ****ing disaster.

The official "hiring rate" in the US is just 3.3%. That's pretty much the lowest level since November 2024.

I guess we need another Covid firing spree so democrats can claim a bunch of new job creations when it ends. I bet you guys would complain if every person who wants a job had a job and there were no openings because everyone was working. Tell all the cry baby gen Z's to get off momma's couch and get a damn job.
 
 

By definition, that isn't possible, since there are more of them than there are jobs for them all to get.
 
I have seen a number of local small businesses close down since January in my neck of the woods. This is anecdotal of course.
