UAE has become more and more a player, and not anymore a Saudi tag-along, instead relations between the Saudis and UAE has soured. UAE tagged along when the Saudis intervened in Yemen, but then started to back other factions than the Saudi backed government in Yemen, to Saudi irritation.

But UAE now wages a proxy war in Sudan against Turkey, where UAE has become the main supporter of the RSF militias, while Turkey is the main backer of the military regime. UAE is now buying drones from China, which they then smuggles to RSF held territory. The Sudanese army needed drones of their own to counter and reached out to Turkey. And now the Civil War has turned into a war of drones. But of course Turkey and UAE are not the only ones playing the game in Sudan. Egypt, Israel, Russia, Iran and Ethiopia are all playing their own games, supporting one side or the other, or even switching side they support.

Here is a Caspian Report on the situation in Sudan.
