While checking the schedule of the educational Smithsonian Channel on television, I came across something that I wanted to share with you.

On Thursday, July 26, 2018, that network will tell the story of LEONORE GOLDSCHMIDT (1897 - 1983).

She was able to establish a school in Nazi Germany for Jewish students by finding "a loophole in Nazi law." The school was finally closed in 1939, and she and her family were able to emigrate.

Her entry in Wikipedia is very short. Hopefully, the television program will give more details.

A lifelong coward myself, I am fascinated by courageous human beings like Ms. Goldschmidt.

What an interesting show that will be. I put it on my calendar. Thanks.

It's great that teachers had the common sense, intellect AND the courage to defy Nazism and Hitler. Now, if only our 21st century teachers and professors would learn to defy Lenin, Marx, Che, Uncle Ho, Trotsky, Mao, Fidel, communism/socialism!

It should be easier to defy those people and their ideas, because FAR more people suffered and died, over a MUCH longer period of time, compared with the 12 years of Hitler. The problem is that socialism has basically become a secular religion for its followers. Millions of them are so blinded by their loyalty to this ideology, that they will defend their 'religion' to the very end. When it becomes clear to most people that socialism has failed yet again, the only thing on the minds of it's followers is to do the same thing they always do. Circle the wagons, defend the ideology, always blaming their perceived enemies for any failures, and most importantly, continue working to advance the ideology!

They never seem to spend so much as an instant evaluating the failures of socialism in an honest, open way. That behavior is only ever witnessed among the most orthodox of religious zealots!

One woman, and there were many, many people who defied the Nazi regime, that I admire and respect so much, is Irene Sendler. What a truly amazing woman she was. She was nominated for the Nobel Prize but lost to...wait for it...Al Gore. What a miscarriage of justice that was. For those who don't know of her, research Irene Sendler. She was a Catholic Polish woman who smuggled children out of the Warsaw Ghetto. Not only did she smuggle them out and find homes for them, she did something else that, to me, was remarkable. She recorded the name of each child and the people the child was placed with, put the names a jars and buried them so that after the war the parents could track down their children. Sadly, most of the parents had been killed, but to me it was amazing foresight.

Why are you hijaking this thread. It is not about socialism, it concerns a teacher putting her ass on the line for her students.
