There have been several responses to campus censorship in the United Kingdom and the United States. One of the most interesting developments has been the rise in demand for conservative thought. In the United States, college tours by speakers popular with conservatives such as Milo Yiannopoulos, Steven Crowder, Ben Shapiro and Christina Hoff Sommers have become huge events. There has been a spike in membership in conservative college clubs including Young Americans for Liberty, which boasts 804 chapters filled with 308,927 members

So, constantly calling people racist, sexist, homophobic, islamophobic, etc., doesn't win them over after all.

In other words, some conservatives are easily triggered and run to their safe spaces where their racism can be celebrated.

Even if all conservatives were triggered racists, they'd still deserve the platform to discuss their beliefs. (so long as violence isn't involved, of course)

Yet you don't believe that liberals deserve the same, do you?

Why do you think I don't believe you?

I have no idea. There is no right-wing group (that I know of) that is actively suppressing the voice of any liberal speaker or commentator.

I cannot say the same about the left and I think it's objectively true that the left is seeing a power struggle in academia and media.

I can't get past the article's paywall, but while I'm pretty liberal myself I think a bit of conservatism on college campuses is a good thing.

No one ideology has a lock on knowledge & truth ...

I hope the left gets a great deal of push back on their ideology for many years to come. The right has to do more to get their message into schools than just have speakers show up every once in a while, but also take steps to put in place right wing teachers that help combat the nonsense that the teachers from the other side are teaching. Still, you have to take these things one step at a time and it seems like the right is taking a nice first step in the right direction.

You're damned right:

In fact all of this crying wolf has made me less likely to take seriously any -ism allegation.

The idea you can change peoples minds through shame at all is pretty illogical. All you end up doing is making them hide their real views behind the shame you have erected around them. What however happens if other people come along and shatter that shame? Well, they will revert back to the view that they were once shamed for, but this time when the shaming comes their way they will just become angry and lock themselves more in their views.

For people that say they're the people of science, reason and human understanding it would seem that the left has very little understanding of how peoples minds work.

That's actually not my concern here. If people want to hold hate meetings on their own time and their own place, that's their right. But when people want to take up public university space to not just preach a gospel of hate against other groups of people but--here's the kicker--have speeches and rallies that actively invite physical acts of hate and violence against other people, that crosses a line. Milo's hate speeches are an example of this--and I'm not talking about the tiny number of anarchist troublemakers that received far more attention than, say, the trans woman whom he incited such vicious harassment against to the point she had to leave campus.

I'm sure it doesn't. In fact, there's this from Andrew Sullivan today.

Their performance-art politics are almost entirely a reaction to the suffocating leftism that they had to endure as they rose through the American education system. As a young, lonely conservative in college, I now wince at recalling, I threw a Champagne party to welcome Reagan’s cruise missiles to Britain. Of course I knew better — and could have made a decent argument for deterrence instead of behaving like a brattish dick. But I didn’t. I wanted to annoy and disrupt the smugness around me. If you never mature, this pose can soon become your actual personality — especially when you realize that it can also be extremely lucrative in the conservative-media industrial complex. I think of Ann Coulter, whom I met recently, backstage at Bill Maher’s show. What struck me was her sincerity, searing intelligence, and grasp of the facts. In another universe, she could have become a reasoned defender of a sane conservatism. Instead she ended up writing In Trump We Trust. In exactly the same way, Miller really is a product of Santa Monica and Duke — their living, breathing, raving antibody.

Milo doesn't promote hate speech. I realize you don't like him telling the truth about things like feminism, but that doesn't make it hate speech.

Facts are not hateful, they're just facts.

We should be very skeptical of the claim when it comes to Americans. This generation has not been brought up to think for themselves, or to seek out diversity of ideas, they tend to be almost full blown retards. I have been around many of this age, not everyone is broken by bad parenting and bad education, but so many are.

He seems to be a dick

As one example of what they termed “incitement, harassment and defamation,” the signers cited a December event at the University of Milwaukee where Yiannopoulos “spoke in his public lecture about a transgender student at the university in derogatory ways, going so far as to project a picture of this student during his lecture, one that was simultaneously broadcast on the Breitbart website.”

...He was permanently banned from Twitter for his part in a racist campaign of abuse toward actress Leslie Jones.

Well, when the focus is on "microaggression" and/or systemic racism or sexism, you know they've been brainwashed by someone. No one comes up with that nonsense on their own.

How would the left treat a bunch of white guys that made a sexist movie like the one Leslie Jones was in? Do you think they would blast them on twitter? Yeah.

As for the transgender case, well, I'm not aware of the case all that well, so I won't speak to it.

Stopped reading right there. I will not entertain falsehoods. Read.

The individual is a tranny. WTF? And why is it wrong to tell everyone that someone is not a female? Oh no, your lie has been found out!

Since you obviously didn't read the article, let me help you:

Adelaide Kramer was in the audience during an event at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she used to be a student, when the speaker, Milo Yiannopoulos, projected a photograph of her on the wall. He then launched into a hateful tirade against Kramer, calling her a "tranny." The photo had been taken early in her transition, and the audience—a room filled by her classmates—laughed as Yiannopoulos degraded her.

I'll bet that had he been a white male, and had Milo degraded him for being a "whitey," suddenly you'd find your empathy again.
