I edited. I just read your explanation.
How do you know it won't be an eternal life of pain.............when the scripture says, it will be?
Look at Ezekiel 18: 20 for example:
(Eze 18:20) The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
The 'soul' that sinneth:
H5315
נֶפֶשׁ

Shall 'die':

The same as in the Garden of Eden, when God commanded them not to eat of the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil.....you will die.
God says, "you sin, you die"......it is man who says, 'you sin, you will not surely die, but live forever in agony and pain'. It basically comes down to whom you believe.
That doesn't mean though that the soul shall literally die.
It refers to the "second death."
Revelation 21:8 explains the second death in the most detail: “The cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
Three other places in Revelation also mention the second death.
The first is Revelation 2:11: “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death” (ESV).
In this verse, Jesus promises that believers will not experience the lake of fire (cf. 1 John 5:4). T
he second death is exclusively for those who have rejected Christ. It is not a place believers in Christ should fear.

What is the second death? What does the Book of Revelation mean when it refers to the second death?www.gotquestions.org
GOD says:
Revelation 20
10 and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were,
and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Revelation 21
8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars,
their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
The devil and false preachers say......................"it isn't true."
No need to waste my time either since Redbeer gave an accurate/thorough explanation...there are none so blind as those who WILL NOT see...Jeremiah points out how willful ignorance or denial can be a powerful obstacle to understanding, even more so than the physical inability to see...No need to be snarky about this request, either.

“Hear this, you foolish and senseless people:
They have eyes but cannot see;
They have ears but cannot hear." Jeremiah 5:21
Keep on believing that...

Irony is wasted on the stupid. - Oscar Wilde
Trying to turn hell contrary to the frightening images that GOD says about it...................is conforming to the current "feel-good" culture of today.
Thus..........even the FEAR OF THE LORD, is being swept under the rug.
FEAR OF THE LORD - is exactly what it is!
No sugar-coating it!
If you have not understood how fearing GOD is what about....................you should read what happened even to His chosen people, like Moses and his sister Miriam!
Moses was denied entrance to the Promised land. Miriam was struck with leprosy!
You want New Testament?
What about Ananias and Sapphira being struck dead for lying?
But what we see today - the Bible is being reconstructed to conform to the current culture.
Nobody is attempting to sweep the fear of God under a rug, so please get off the soapbox.
Problem for you, is the desire for others to fear an unrighteous God who has sadistic punishments
that have never entered the heart or mind of God.
Most parents who come home to find out that their kid has taken apart their laptop are going to be appalled. He had killed whole nations that included children!
In this age of an abundance of information ignorance is a choice...
Amen...read that again...Abundance of information is detrimental if we don't know how to discern truth from lies.
We'd still be ignorant despite the abundance of information..................if we can't discern.
