Love studying Sam Houston - a unique figure whose intellect went vastly underrated.

Was he the old guy on Walker Texas Ranger?

I had a proud ACLU card-carrying member as one of my profs in grad school in history. The rest were not what I'd call liberal. Oh, there was one other, but NONE in undergrad.

Man you guys got robbed. I had the one who considered himself the very last of the Great Southern Gentlemen. Boy I loved watching him just about explode every time one of those everything was about racism folks spoke about anything. By mid-terms his questions were prefaced with something along the lines of "Does anybody have anything to ask that has nothing to do with racism?"

I don't think I got robbed, per se. A masters in history was kind of a joke because you learned more about research and political correctness and needless stress. Learned a lot more in undergrad and on my own, just in shear history.

Masters should never be in the same major as undergrad. Too much overlap.

Well, no, I agree, but it left me hating history so bad at the end I didn't read a book for over two years, left Civil War reenacting, and couldn't even stand to hear the word history for a long time. It was just jumping through the flaming hoops, not really learning.

I believe the new high school history books for the state of Texas will be published soon. You might enjoy reading those.

A reenactor eh? I bet you was one of dem yankees....LOL. I get invited to do Revolutionary War reenactments by some colleagues who travel all over to do it, but they always want me to be a redcoat so I pass.....

Why do you pass? Think about, in the middle of the re-enactment you could pull out a bullhorn and start screaming in your best crapy British accent things like “I’m a pompous lime sucker, bow down to my Imperial will!” and “obey my tiny spotted-dog Cockney, OBEY!!!”

Because as a newbie I imagine I will be the first casualty resulting in me having to lay in the grass wearing a wool jacket for two hours in the blazing sun :) Those guys get way too into that stuff for me. I'd maybe do some of the WWII stuff but I don't know anybody who does it and as far as I know, it seldom happens close enough that I would be willing to hike off to. I can do local black box theater if I feel a need to get my pretend on I suppose....

Reenacting the Alamo might would be fun though. My Sam Houston or Daniel Boone would be more of a Billy Idol on crack though I think
