Sierra Leone violence: Sunday attacks were part of coup attempt - minister

At least the government says so. Africa is on a coup spree where civilian governments have been overthrown and replaced by military regimes at an alarming rate the last few years. This comes after the re-election of President Julius Maada Bio, in an election where international obeservers doubt the official result, and the opposition of course rejects it.

8 coups in the last 3 years.

The African continent saw a significant increase in coups in the last three years, with military figures carrying out takeovers in Gabon, Niger, Burkina Faso, Sudan, Guinea, Chad and Mali.

I'm willing to bet most have a tribal basis to them.

Too many nations that were forged with neighbouring tribes who hated each other.
