The recent surge in gun sales shows that gun clutching by all the red state Bubbas and Jim Bobs is nothing more than racial fear.

I mean, it's one thing to rush to the Guns R Us and by a Child Killer 6000 super rifle because a mass shooting happened and you think there will be gun bans, but we're witnessing a long-overdue racial reckoning. What's with all the gun sales?

Simple answer. They think that if police have to treat people fairly then the scary, uppity dark-skinned people might get out of line and burn down our houses.

Have you any idea who is buying what?

It's gun owners buying more guns because they're afraid of an upcoming ban.

You look at images of the long lines outside of gun stores an they're all guys with beards and baseball caps.

A ban they assure us will never happen.

People were ACTUALLY burning things down, and their supporters are now demanding the defunding of police. I can't think of two better reasons to become a gun owner if you weren't already.

There's more going on here than fear of rioting mobs.
That's way low on my list.

I will be buying a shotgun soon.

I'm buying one because I don't trust our government to get their **** straight any time soon.

I expect that things could get much, much worse.
Our infrastructure could become compromised for an indefinite period of time.
During that time, it'd be nice to go hunting again.
Or to just have one around for the folks for whom charity is insufficient.

I'm unsure of what the exact likelihood of things going sideways enough that I'd be glad to have a shotgun is.
But, given that I'd already planned on buying one anyway, the likelihood doesn't have to be that large to spur action sooner than waiting until after I retire.
[ I spent my youth wandering the woods. I intend to spend my old age that way as well. ]

Everyone needs to stay in touch w/ your congregation or it's equivalent.
We will all need to work with our neighbors to get through what's coming.
Help each other.

Make up packets for the homeless folks.

The evictions'll be starting en masse soon enough.
The jobs haven't come back.

And you think armed mobs are likely to invade your home and steal your food and toilet paper...tell me, why haven't you bought one yet ?

How fancy do you want to get? I mean, I know a guy, if you're really interested.

Least fancy as I can stand.
My needs are low maintenance and high reliability — iow few moving parts.

fwiw, I specifically said the opposite of what you think I said.

Whoa!! The Child Killer 6000 is out now!?! Looks like a trip to the Bubba and Jim Bob supply store is in order!

But seriously, folks. Who are the people buying all these guns? How many first time gun owners are there recently?

Rem 870, Mossberg 500 or Winchester SXP. All should be reasonably inexpensive ant completely reliable. Get 12ga for flexibility and price on ammo.

You're going to have one problem with this idea and that is that you aren't the only one thinking along these lines so finding one may be an issue.

12 is what I was thinking.
The ammo price and the range of loads etc. were the swaying points.

It's kind of a jack of all trades if you have the right ammo.

I don't care for cleaning animals, so I expect to only hunt things I have ready to cook in a few hours — no deer, no hogs.
I think with hot peppers, onion, garlic, and a few hours of low heat, I can make most any protein palatable if not enticing.

vent rib or unvented? :)

vent rib or unvented? :)

The rib usually adds a couple of hundred to the gun and I'm not so sure he'll need it for his purposes.

On a side note, I really do like ribs. Preferably with a spicy dry rub.

Nothing says "palatable" quite like nutria casserole.

Then if not mobs after your toilet roll, what is it you fear, that a shotgun might prevent ?
Per my previous post you ostensibly read, it will allow me to hunt for protein.
I intend to get around to hunting once I retire.

Per my previous post, I decided it's likely the govt will continue to **** up.
In particular, in re it's response in re covid and the food industries.

If you have more questions, I may have already answered them in my previous post.

They look like they get chubby.
Iirc, there's not a limit on them here.

But I may be mistaken. It's been literally years since I read up on it.

We got Cajun in our family.
We'll spice it and eat it.

Years ago I heard hubby talking to some friends how he would like to get a 12 ga. so I thought aha! I will get him one for Christmas. So I went to the purchase one and the first thing they asked is if I wanted a vent rib or unvented? So I didn't get very far with that visit because I had no idea. I ended up getting one of his buddies to go with me to help me pick it out. It ended up to be one with a vent rib. I did good.

I think you'll find that supermarkets will offer more convenience

Do you intend to kill all you eat ?

And ?

So, what are you eating now ?

bull****
Gun Background Checks Surged to New High in June
there is nothing which tells us the surge in buying is race related

I'm unfamiliar w/ you, so I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.
I'm going to assume that you are having genuine comprehension issues rather than deliberately trying to misunderstand.

Maybe you don't buy your own groceries. idk.
You may not have noticed, but the price of meat has been rising steadily for the past while.
The price has been rising because access to meat is becoming more scarce.
Meat is becoming more scarce because too many workers are getting covid to come to work.
The Trump Admin solution to the problem focused on relieving the employer of liability for workers getting sick.
This move reduces some of the potential costs from employers but did nothing to address the issue as it exists.
The issue is that the meat packing plants are unable to stay staffed because of covid sicknesses.
Removing the liability for the sickness does nothing to ensure there are enough people willing, well enough, and available to do the work.

In the short term, these plants can offer more money to entice workers. This short term solution also causes the price of meat to go up.

Unless the underlying issue of covid infections are dealt with rationally,
meat will become prohibitively expensive.

Do you expect Trumpco will deal rationally with the inevitable supply chain disruptions as various private industries take on piecemeal ad hoc solutions to one issue at a time?

I think they'll continue to **** it up.

In addition to meat, other industries will be adversely affected as well.
If quarantines or other covid related issues disrupt trucking or another infrastructure service like that, the consequences will be widespread though temporary.

I don't trust my govt to do the right thing when it come to dealing w/ covid.
The implications are myriad and varied.

This happens every few years. Those guys already have a closet full of guns and ammo. Total gun ownership is still less than half of households. The saying "as many guns as people" is quite misleading.
