'The price will be incalculable': Trump warns Venezuela of consequences over migrant return https://www.firstpost.com/world/the-price-will-be-incalculable-trump-warns-venezuela-of-consequences-over-migrant-return-13935504.html

US President Donald Trump on Saturday issued a stark warning to Venezuela, threatening “incalculable” repercussions if it fails to repatriate migrants it has allegedly sent to the United States.

“We want Venezuela to immediately accept all of the prisoners, and people from mental institutions… forced into the United States of America,” Trump said, adding in all-caps “or the price you pay will be incalculable!"

Tensions between the two countries have escalated after Venezuela accused the US of waging an “undeclared war” in the Caribbean, urging the United Nations to investigate American strikes that reportedly killed more than a dozen suspected drug traffickers at sea in recent weeks.

The United States has increased its military presence in the region, deploying warships off Venezuela’s coast alongside F-35 fighter jets stationed in Puerto Rico as part of what it describes as an anti-drug operation. This represents the largest US naval deployment in the Caribbean in decades, raising concerns about potential attacks on Venezuelan territory.

What the F**K?? I mean, honestly, what is this tyrant, fascist, dictator, authoritarian, asshole president trying to start a war with Argentina? The U.S. illegally shot at least 3 boats heading to Caracas from Venezuela, in international water. That makes the U.S. a criminal! If the U.S. goes to war with anyone, who will be our allies? Nobody. Who will be Venezuela's allies? Russia and China, that's who. This is absolutely nuts that we're tolerating this shit from Trump.

In my lifetime the US military has been sent packing by two of the most backward çountries in the world. I have to wonder how intimidated Venezuela feels.

He wants to reopen a base in Afghanistan too.

Not sure what the status on Canada being the 51st state is. Or Greenland & Panama.

Heading to Caracas from Venezuela? War with Argentina? Argentina’s at the other end of the continent.

Our resident Latin America geopolitical expert has stumbled. Argentina, Venezuela, anyone can make that mistake!

When it comes to the war on drugs, you're either part of the solution or part of the problem. Pretty darn obvious which side the Democrats are on.

meaningless phrase..."part of the solution or part of the problem". uselessly vague, but handy for politicians and partisans because they can declare it means exactly what they want it to mean. and the famous "WAR ON DRUGS" lol. we've been fighting the WAR ON DRUGS since the 70s, why didn't republicans WIN this WAR by now? why didn't trump WIN the WAR in his first term?

its pretty obvious your post was stupid.

Some of us are on the side of finding methods that work.

Extortion and threatening via OUR Federal government and Military.

Trump isn't very smart and he doesn't have many tools in his bag but the few that he has he just keeps using them over and over.

Part of the industry. Prohibition doesn't work. Anyone with a triple-digit IQ knows that. It's basic economics. In a capitalist system every demand will be met, more certainly when there's that much money to be made. You could wipe out the cartels tomorrow and they'd be replaced by Wednesday.
There's two ways to end the trade in illegal drugs...
1- End the demand.
2- Make the drugs legal.
Every other approach is just maintaining the status quo for the sake of a thriving industry.

Drugs has won the war. It won decades ago. We are basically Japan in 1945.

He still says people seeking asylum come from mental institutions. 😀

Every other county has developed highly effective solutions to combat the drug trade and drug addiction. Even third world countries with very limited resources has the drug problem under control. America's problem is twofold. 1. US society's love affair with freedom & the 'anything goes' mantra. 2. We're so rich and wealthy we can afford to support a growing class of non-productive problematic people. Our demand for drugs is so great we have wreaked other counties (such as Mexico) in the process.

I've seen some nutty takes on this forum and this one is right near the top of the list.

Russia and China will go to war with the US over Venezuela? Seriously, Venezuela?

Good grief.

There's this funny thing, called 'facts'. Russia and Venezuela signed a strategic partnership in May 2025. Maduro took power in 2014. Maduro was the Minister of Foreign Affairs under Chavez. Hugo Chavez did to Venezuela exactly what Trump has been doing to the U.S. He imprisoned his enemies, took over the television networks, prosecuted news agencies and arrested journalists. Maduro was like what JD Vance is to Trump. In 2019, after the failed coup attempt at unseating Maduro, Russia started delivering airplanes to Venezuela, even those that are equipped to handle nuclear bombs. There are Russia ships in the ports in Venezuela, they're training Venezuela military. In Venezuela, the military have their own cities, apartment complexes, etc. They are the privileged class in Venezuela. From what my son in Colombia tells me, the military are all fat because they eat a lot of meat, which is something that the Venezuelan people can't get.

Maduro owns a huge 1,000 acre palace and property in Turkey. I suppose in case he needs to get out of Venezuela in a hurry. Russia and Venezuela have strategic bomber and warships joint exercises. Russia has sent military personnel and specialists to Venezuela to provide training and maintain Russian-supplied military hardware.

To be fair, Trump finds almost all math incalculable, so he isn't really lying.

The war on drugs has been an epic fail.

Kind of like the war on guns and “gun violence,” eh? Those drug dealers have no shortage of drugs or guns. and we need to recognize the role drug addicts play in all of it. They’re like the oxygen that fuels the fire. We’ve decriminalized marijuana, and the result has been cartels growing it here and importing slave labor to harvest and process it. They’ve muscled out legal growers because cartels are criminal organizations that don’t worry about things like paying taxes and following rules beyond “Destroy the competition at all costs.” Besides, aren’t opioids legal? Just imagine where that epidemic would have been if people could legally sell and consume them like candy. I love how progressives say, “The war on drugs has been an epic fail. Let’s legalize them.” Then in the next breath they conclude we need a war on guns instead. Makes perfect sense to a liberal.

No, the only real way to address both problems is to confront the rot taking place in American society. Maybe what we need is a little more Jesus, Muhammad, and Buddha. I mean, haven’t heard of a drug epidemic among the Mennonite, Amish, or devout Buddhist communities, or members of the Nation of Islam. Mormons got hit with legal opioids like everyone else, but their consumption of illicit drugs is lower than among the general populace. Exteme examples? Yes, but only to illustrate a point: we all have choices, and we’re all either part of the solution, or the problem.

thread has turned into drug legalization.. Im a libertarian and recognize one cannot win a "drug war".. legalize and tax it
However that's not going to happen

So..back to the OP i wonder what Trump can do? he can go after Venezuela as a narco-state.. not sure he has the political capital to do it however

None of what you said supports the fruitcake idea that China and Russia would side with Venezuela against the US in a war. Venezuela is a pissant country with little strategic value except for it's oil reserves. No superpower would risk a large scale war with the US over it.

Stop saying stupid shit.

When it comes to the war on drugs, you're either part of the solution or part of the problem. Pretty darn obvious which side the Democrats are on.
That's bs. The solution does not involve interrupting supply. It has to be reducing demand.

You interrupt supply they just look for a work-around. It is surprising anybody who is vaguely aware of the results of prohibition would want to repeat the same stupid errors.

People need counseling and addiction treatment centers. The drug gangs were inadvertently created by the USA.

Take better care of our struggling populace. Create opportunity and a chance for a good life, people won't turn to drugs as much.

More effective government social programs would reduce the cost of paying for interdiction, anti-trafficking, police, courts and incarceration.

Take care of billionaires and screw the rest then destitute and depowered people turn to drugs out of desperation. By creating the demand, we created the gangs. We build the guns they use. The NRA gets lota business for their big money corporate sponsors. Prisons for profit loves it when there is lots of crime and long term sentencing. More government money for them, more taxes needed to pay for it all. Dumb.

Talk about an epic fail! That’s a lovely non-answer. Shows your conviction and dedication to your cause. 😆

Actually, my response to your legalization argument is pretty simple: legalizing drugs is almost worse than the disease. It didn’t work with marijuana. It certainly won’t work with deadly, highly-addictive synthetic opioids like fentanyl or xylazine. The only chance we have is to change cultural attitudes towards how we approach these substances. Unfortunately, many people appear to be lost souls hellbent on self-destruction.
