The Persecution of Hunter Biden

I'll be honest, I find the GOP behavior toward Hunter Biden to be reprehensible. I have no particular interest in him, frankly, and otherwise would have little sympathy for him. He's done some shady things, some foolish things, and has a well-publicized addiction problem. But he's not a public figure.

It has become a habit of the Republican in government to persecute private citizens for political gain. It's disgusting.

Hunter is being prosecuted for things virtually no one is prosecuted over. His private electronic devices have been stolen, exposed and exploited. He's being hounded as a private citizen for political gain, because he happens the to be the President's son.

There's just no reason for this. Why do Republicans tolerate it?

They are doing what they are doing because Trump told them to do it. Trump wants revenge for being booted out of office and he wants revenge because he is being held accountable for his criminal behavior. The mindless flunkies in the GQP are happy to kiss his orange buttocks.

Trump is a disease. The GQP is a carrier of that disease. Both are a problem, and neither can be trusted. Both need to be removed from politics.

Because Trump demands it. That is all the GOP is now... a machine to fulfill Trump's wishes. It is idolatry plain and simple and against everything America stands for.

Because he may have been a conduit for foreign nationals bribing the Vice President of the United States.
 
The closest parallel I can find in congressional history is Senator McCarthy.

I agree what they are doing is reprehensible. To use the president's recovering son in such a public and humiliating way just to hurt Joe Biden politically. If you want to go after Joe then do it but to weaponize his unconditional love for his son is immoral.....and all because Trump has directed them to harm Biden politically or else. I was impressed with Hunter standing up to it today and I hope he continues being vocal and exposing the sham for what it is. I think this will backfire big time on the Republican House. They may help Trump win the WH again but many of them will lose their jobs in the process.....not that Trump cares. He only cares about himself.

It's too bad, but of course the families of politicians are more heavily scrutinized than the average citizen, given the fact that polticians can, and have, used their families to do things they themselves could not do in an effort to avoid scrutiny.

It's a sad situation, but ultimately one you probably wouldn't want changed. I mean, imagine if Trump's family couldn't be similarly scrutinized? Nah...gotta keep it consistent.

The families of politicians should be universally scrutinized because otherwise the families of politicians can be used to act on their behalf to do things they themselves cannot do. What is so controversial / complicated about that? What part are you having a difficult time making sense of?
 
Presidents’ family members have always been fodder for the news. Lynda Bird Johnson dating playboy movie star George Hamilton, Ron Reagan dropping out of Yale to become a ballet dancer, his sister Patti Davis marching with Nuclear Freeze protesters, Chelsea Clinton flopping as a TV news reporter, the Bush girls partying at downtown Manhattan clubs.

Those were minor things that made news but none rose to the level of Hunters drug and sex problems, while those are rampart in the news circles those are not what is in question.

It is his dealings and financial ties to foreign figures and businesses while his father served as VP and then President. Things like his being paid $50,000 a month by Ukrainian firm Burisma. He also has sat on the boards of BHR Partners, a private investment fund backed by a number of Chinese state entities; a hedge fund, Paradigm; a consultancy, Seneca Global Advisors; and the fundraising firm Rosemont Seneca. Hunter sought an annual $2m retainer to aid in the recovery of Libyan assets frozen by the Obama administration during Muammar Gaddafi’s rule. The list goes on and it is OK as long as its remembered “10% for the Big Guy”.

I disagree. They are private citizens, pure and simple. They should get neither a "free pass" nor "universal scrutiny". This is not - yet - a police state. Personally, I'd prefer it never become one.

Yes, it is evidence that suggests -- but does not yet prove -- that Joe Biden enriched himself by selling access to his office.
