Just seems we are stuck in a rut, that we haven't been on stable ground for sometime. Not just with COVID, tho that did trigger the crisis mode we are in, limping along from one crisis to the next.

So just for the misery of it, what do you think the next crisis to hit the US will be?

I think the rolling blackouts are possible, but they will blame it on infrastructure hacking.

almost half a century since our last oil embargo
if biden cannot convince the israelis to do better by the Palestinian people, i am going with that one

Whatever happened to sniper monkeys?

More and more gun deaths and mass shootings as the disgruntled morons of the one term mistake cult start to realize that they have been had. 2021 has already 20% ahead of the 2020 record of the most gun death in 20 years. More and more people who own guns are deciding to take as may people with them as possible when they decide to commit suicide.

Rolling blackouts was my pick too, tho just about any of these could very well trigger all or most of the others.

I hate to be a nihilist, I'm just skeptical about the house of cards we have built.

All the more reason to pass Biden's infrastructure bill that will finally nationalize our electric grid.

Uncle Joe already played the "blame the last guy" card with COVID, whatever has happened or will happen next, he has to own it, fair or unfair, the buck stops with him.

Meh. I'm not as negative as many here seem to be. Shit happens. Always did. Always will. We get over it. But to pick one, I'm going with 'infrastructure hacking' - particularly private infrastructure.

Not sure we need it nationalized, but at the least it needs to be highly regulated & robust. We saw what Texas' de-regulation did.

I am more optimistic, but there are quite a few points of failure.

Hope I am wrong, but the climate is rife for political violence/assassination.

My money is on the boat getting stuck again.

You have to remember that the right isn't actually interested in solutions.

That is why we need to bypass them entirely and end the filibuster. It is coming the only question is how long will it take to happen. The only thing the GOP ever does lately is obstruct.

??

'Nationalized' means government owned. If you didn't mean that, you mispoke.
It will have to be govt. regulated, ownership is immaterial really. A national grid has been talked about for 40 years and it is about time we implemented it.

If mass shootings continue, I believe more and more people will forgo getting in their car, driving down to the mall or wherever and doing the "Shopping Spree!!"
Naturally, this hasn't happened yet (Although I do know of two families that have curtailed going out in public much because of perhaps Danger!)
Still, if people are apprehensive about buying-in-person, the mom and pop people will be put in a serious bind which will lead to unemployment for many.
I sincerely hope I'm totally wrong..

Yes, I agree we need a national grid that's highly regulated. But we already have some of that in transmission terms, too a point, with the various regional systems which can (and do) borrow from each other.

Texas' problem was it has an isolated system that cannot borrow from anywhere! They're unconnected.

Also, keep in mind that it's difficult to transmit substantial power over long distances. We tend to borrow from our nearby neighbors.

Actually, from where I'm sitting the above seems bit paranoid.

Living in a large city, there's neighborhoods & times & places I avoid. But I can't imagine avoiding a normal activity, fearing a mass shooting. That seems way over the top.
