The most ironic California stories of 2019 – Orange County Register

I still get buzzed when I recall that a majority of Californians looked at what Gavin Newsom allowed while mayor of San Francisco — rampant homelessness, transportation gridlock, failed public projects, a widening income gap, sidewalk needles and human, er, waste — and decided they wanted that for the whole state. They elected him governor in 2018, and now complain California is going to hell.

One party state + one party media = corruption.

Yeah the only republican from California in Congress had to leave because he was found corrupt and taking from his campaign fund illegally..

That is because he didn't want to become homeless due to the widening income gap :2razz:

Yeah the only republican from California in Congress had to leave because he was found corrupt and taking from his campaign fund illegally..

And then we have the Trump toady and Russia-conspiricist Devin Nunes from California.

Too bad you guys can’t read.
Too bad you don’t live in California to understand the politics.
And too bad if you move here you would be homeless in a week.
And lastly, when it’s raining thread craps, the TDS’ers have been triggered, even when the article it’s not about Trump.

The pill is bitter to swallow. We know you want to try and make this all about the bad Democrats yet the Repubs in the state have literally screwed themselves silly and you are pissed..There is not one state, one county nor one city which doesn't have the problems that California suffers from in the USA no matter who is running them.

Why would I want to live in California since I wanted to in 1978 but decided to live without all the people so close to one another and the pollution. So, I stayed in other states that still have political corruption, hell, even in McDonald county , Missouri we have corruption, abuse, gaft, homeless and all the other neat things that are byproducts of humans...
Now if you hate California so bad go and live in Mississippi and find out what it's like in the republican havens of the US..

In 1978, English was spoken here and crapping in the middle of main street was illegal. In fact, I think I bought my first house for 95K with a Cal-vet loan.

I know something about this state.

It was once solidly conservative; today it is solidly liberal.

The liberals have done some good things: tried to control police excesses, legalized gay relations before the federal Supreme Court did, etc.

The conservatives have done some good things: stopped homeowners from losing their homes because of outrageously high property taxes, etc.

*****

1. The state is overwhelmed by the number of ladies and gentlemen and their children who are "unauthorized" immigrants.

a. Billions are needed for education, law enforcement, health services, etc.

b. The weather (especially here in Southern California) is so wonderful that no wonder many unhoused people choose California's sidewalks to sleep on.

The latest news: Some Californians are actually leaving the state. There was a net loss of 40,000 residents recently. Nevada, I hear, now has more residents from other states than native Nevadians.

It is a very difficult state for either a Dem or Republican to govern. In fact, it may be impossible.

I live in California. I have for decades.

Yes.

Other states have many of the same problem.

Just not to the same degree.

One eighth of the countries population yet one third the welfare recipients.

A business atmosphere that drives out manufacturers.

The highest taxes.

Businesses closing due to homeless folks over running their business centers.

Over regulation hammering other small businesses.

A man made ills.

Yeah, but when real estate is as high(currently) as it is when someone buys a home, that's when property taxes are determined at that point on. I don't think those tax reformes(Prop 13) included rising ridiculous home values

I feel what really changed Calif was the mass number of legal immigrants(real voters)

The Republicans I knew were Cassandras in the state legislature.

No one listened. They didn't have to.

What I was getting at was Republican U.S. congress critters

I have nothing to tell yous to make life a utopian society since it will always involve humans and will fail.

Excellent summary.
If I might add one more thing... Throwing money at our public schools to a tune of a hundred billion a year, and expecting a positive outcome has proven to be a major fail. CA. ranks 38th in the nation for school performance.

Who said anything about utopian?

I simply wish the California PTB would quit with the distopian legislation.

I wish the Feds and those in Mizzouri would do the same yet here we are, crapping in one hand and wishing in the other, damn well knowing which will be filled the fastest.

I agree 100% with your viewpoint.

Sadly, this situation will never improve until the bigwigs realize that many of the students should not be forced to apply for the university.

The bigwigs do not like the idea of vocational schools, but that is exactly what many students want.

I do not see any change coming. The bigwigs simply do not want to accept brutal reality.

So billions will continue to be wasted on schools -- and on the bullet train between Frisco and L.A.!

Look at the money the state is getting from the "gas tax". That money is supposed to go primarily for road and bridge repairs via the Highway Trust fund. Instead, the loony leftists, running the asylum, seek to hijack and divert mega funds for their mass transit projects and walking and bike paths for pedestrians.

At least Newsom used one of last remaining brain cells and vetoed the wacky left's appeal from a hundred million to a billion dollars for more bike and pedestrian improvements.

Newsom upset some fellow Democrats when he vetoed a bill Saturday that his administration said would have expanded the existing law’s $100 million in subsidies for bicyclist and pedestrian improvements to a yearly total of $1 billion.

“This veto is extremely disappointing,” said state Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), author of the bill, which he said would fight climate change by making it safer for people to leave their cars behind. “Far too many of our state highways that run through local communities are dangerous for people who aren’t driving cars.”

Other supporters of the bill offered even sharper criticism.

“We are appalled by Governor Newsom’s decision to derail SB 127 despite overwhelming support by the public and the Legislature,” said Tony Dang, executive director of California Walks.

But Newsom’s Department of Finance warned that the legislation’s price tag would have delayed road repair projects promised to voters in 2018 as part of a political campaign that successfully blocked a repeal of the SB 1 fuel taxes.

I believe California is 48th, close to grasping the coveted last place trophy. The huge number of children who have to learn English in the classroom and don’t speak English at home is a strain on educational success since the parents are unable to get involved. It also dilutes the curriculum, to keep progress level with the lowest achiever. Plus, elementary and middle school students cannot be expelled for misbehavior.

The teachers are demanding raises because private schools are expensive! Plus, teacher are being recruited by the private sector out looking for talent.

Get ready to be called a "racist" for telling the above truth.

Just laugh. ;)
