The place was Prussia.

The issue...

...was universal health care.

The underlying issue...

...was (National Liberal Protestant versus Conservative Catholic) religion (with atheist socialists on the side)...

...and (Polish Catholic) immigration.

The trade balance...

...was in a deficit to Great Britain.

The economic debate...

...was structure versus agency.

Geopolitical capital was dwindling, and Prussia (later Germany) found itself bogged down in many wars.

It grew dissociated. It lost WW1.

The depression hit.

The fascists took over, and they persecuted a group that had been joked about for generations.

Are we on the same path?

Haven't we been on the same path for some time?

Can we turn it around?
