The Kirk shooting appears to have been unusually ripe for conspiracy theories

Currently, reports indicate it's likely the shooting was an act by one person. But the first 24 hours had an unusually ripe amount of things pointing to conspiracy theories.

One is that two people near Kirk, moments before the shot, were doing suspicious hand gestures, such as tipping his cap.

More broadly, the united right-wing response for a Reichstag fire type call for war against the left showed a motive for committing the shooting as a false-flag operation; this was fueled by trump's top political adviser recently denouncing Kirk as an enemy of trump, which she deleted after the shooting to call for the war against trump's opponents.

Another theory was that Putin could be behind the shooting, to stir division and chaos.

Another was that the rogue terrorist state could be behind it, as Kirk was speaking out about Epstein being a Mossad agent and calling for the release of the files - and a report Kirk had told someone he was concerned that state would kill him if he said something against them.

And there were reports of two people who were 'decoys' for the shooting, including the man first taken into custody as a suspect, who reportedly was yelling that he had done it when the shooting happened.

Especially notable was a report that an hour after the shooting, a private plan had taken off from the nearby airport, and in flight, had illegally turned off its device allowing it to be tracked, and an hour later, re-appeared and flew back to the airport, suggesting it had flown the shooter to escape.

A number of people were convinced that and more showed a clear conspiracy. After all that, it's appearing the story is simpler, one person for their own motive. The conspiracy possibilities aren't resolved yet, but some of them appear disproven and others unlikely. This was a person who left evidence, and told people he did it, and was quickly caught.

Conspiracies abound. Nothing new or unusual here.

I wonder if the right wing media is taking orders from Trump as to how to cover this. Trump obviously wants to control/exploit it to the maximum to amplify his own power/attention. He does appear to be in a position to dictate what they will and will not say.

And to some extent all media, if they ever want access to Trump again.

This incident is also fueled by elected R's desire to talk about anything other than the actual state of our nation.

I see it as not likely, but some commentary:

The big question somebody has to answer is why it takes a conspiracy to kill one guy who talks at college campuses. I mean, recruiting a second person would drastically have increased the odds of being caught in advance, with no real benefit toward the mission.

Trump declared the shooter guilty by saying on Fox he must get the death penalty and that persuades all juries making the case ripe for a no trial.

I don't indulge in CT but it is disgusting that in the immediate aftermath of Kirk being gunned down Trump blamed "radical leftists" and has continued to fold immigrants and transgenders into his rants about crime and vengeance despite the shooter being a straight white male from a conservative home.

There is little doubt right wing media takes direction from the WH.

It doesn't. But there could be one, speaking in general. Looking at this incident, there are two unexplained men giving 'hand signals', two reported 'patsies', one report of a suspicious flight out of the area which illegally turned off its locater device that could have helped people escape, and so on.
