The invention of 'hetersexuality'

Does that mean in 1890s that being gay was far more accepted or there were many more bisexuals? This is all news to me.
Maybe answered already, but there was a period where, at least in European cultures, sex was a procreation activity, and love was a bad reason for marriage. Thus actually having a sexual attraction period was considered perverse and deviant.
