The fake fentanyl justification

Right. Gotcha.
But businesses in the USA buy raw materials from Canadian companies. Not consumer goods. So if their materials go up 25% in cost they have to charge more for their products.
Take steel for example. If John Deere buys Canadian-made steel it's because there's not enough domestic steel produced. So now they pay more for steel than Kubota does. Makes them less competitive.
Unless they shift some manufacturing to one of their offshore facilities.
Right. Gotcha.

Trump wants tariffs in order to benefit American workers, which they do.
No they don't. American companies buy raw materials and energy from Canadian companies. Not consumer goods. American companies will shift manufacturing offshore to get around the tariffs.
But on net, they make the country worse off.
You bet, and quickly too. Last time Trump did this it didn't last long but Harley-Davidson moved a lot of their manufacturing to their facility in Thailand. Don't know if those jobs ever came back home.

Right. And, it gets even worse. When John Deere tries selling that finished tractor to a Canadian company, well, now it gets hit for another 25% in import tariffs. Supposedly more than half of Deere's products go to Canada and many of those products will see a 30%, 35% or 40% price increase due to compounding tariffs in both directions, which makes the Kubota even more attractive.

Any product whose supply chain spans both nations and whose target markets include both nations is suddenly at a ~30% (or higher) cost disadvantage.

Tariffs are no benefit to a trading partner, particularly to the consumer on either end. Tariffs are only useful when used as a tool to punish a country, such as the tariffs on Russia

No they don't.

Yes they do. There are no bigger supporters of tariffs than labor unions. The number one reason Biden imposed his 100% tariff on Chinese cars was because of lobbying by the UAW.

Agreed, but I said workers, not consumers. For example, compare the number of American auto workers to the number of Americans who buy cars and car parts.

Apples and oranges.
American companies buy raw materials from Canadian companies. Tariffs on raw materials screw American workers, making everything they produce more expensive.
Trump just made American cars more expensive.

Trump put a 25% tariff on Canadian lumber. This benefits US loggers and workers at sawmills and workers in the processed lumber industry (plywood, etc) because it increases the demand for their labor.

However it's bad for construction workers, or any industry that uses the lumber after it's processed.

...and seldom deployed without retaliation.

This is the problem in that the Rapist stupidly believes his government coffers get the dough!!!!!

He doesn't realize the consumer pays the high price and collecting the dough costs as much as it makes

The pretext is a load of rubbish. There's no way anyone can be a big enough idiot to think 25% tariffs on goods is the way to address drug trafficking across a nation's borders, especially when the country in question is an ally. So like most things Donnie Boy does and says, you have to assume he's either and idiot or a liar; not that the two are mutually exclusive, of course.
;)

Trump’s bombardment of dishonesty: Fact-checking 32 of his

May 4, 2024 · Former President Donald Trump delivered a bombardment of dishonesty in his interviews with Time magazine.

It's not about fentanyl, it never was. Trump tries to undermine the democratic system of both the US and her allies and neighbors. One of the things he tries to kill is free trade. And also he wants to paint Canada and Mexico as enemies. Isolate the US from the democratic world.

Okay Canadians, what gives? Why are you just taking pictures of fentanyl labs but not shutting them down, huh?!?

Fentanyl Is Smuggled for U.S. Citizens By U.S. Citizens, Not Asylum Seekers

Fentanyl overdoses tragically caused tens of thousands of preventable deaths last year. Many politicians who want to end U.S. asylum law claim that immigrants crossing the border illegally are responsible. An NPR-Ipsos poll last week found that 39 percent of Americans and 60 percent of Republicans believe, “Most of the fentanyl entering the U.S. is smuggled in by unauthorized migrants crossing the border illegally.” A more accurate summary is that fentanyl is overwhelmingly smuggled by U.S. citizens almost entirely for U.S. citizen consumers.

That doesn't explain those Canadian fentanyl labs!

Trump is a liar and a manipulator. Just because he claims to have secret evidence of foreign chemical labs, there's no public evidence that I can find of this claim. Trump will do, or say, anything negative about Justin Trudeau and Canada in order to justify his insane 25% tariff on Canada. In a phone call with Trudeau, Trump told the Canadian Prime Minister that he didn't believe that the treaty that demarcates the border between the two countries was valid.

Just 1% of fentanyl is being smuggled across the border into the US, 1%! Kevin Hassett claimed to have seen photographs of fentanyl labs in Canada that the law enforcement folks were leaving alone. So, because Kevin Hassett, a former and current member of Trump's administration says so, it must be true, right? Trump is eager to demonize Canada in order to satisfy his base by justifying it and making Canada 'the enemy' of the US. Trump complained about the trade deficit. At other times, he pointed to illegal border crossings. Today, he settled on a talking point about fentanyl. It's all bullshit propaganda.

Quote from Justin Trudeau: “What he wants is to see a total collapse of the Canadian economy, because that’ll make it easier to annex us.”

Trump never lies. He said he sent the Ayatollah of Iran a letter and while the Iranian leader says he never got it, I think Trump must have mailed it USPS and they lost the letter!
