EU-Ukraine trade reset: What comes after tariff-free access expires?

In order to keep Ukrainian agriculture alive, and Ukrainian grain to reach their usual markets in the Middle East and Africa, the EU implemented a tariff free scheme for Ukrainian agricultural goods in 2022, with the intention of allowing Ukraine to freely transport grain for the Middle Eastern and African markets through EU territory. At the same time Ukraine could also freely export goods to Europe such as maize, eggs, poultry and grains to keep Ukrainian farms alive. This deal expires on Thursday and can't be renewed. Now negotiations for a new trade deal between the EU and Ukraine begins. It probably won't be completely tariff free for agricultural goods. Polish farmers especially were pissed of at Ukrainian grain entering the Polish market in large quantities. For now at least the normal tariffs will return until a new deal is made. Some kind of temporary precautional step has reportedly already been suggested by the Commission, something to soften the blow to Ukraine if negotiations drag.

why can the deal not be renewd?
Because they made it non- renewable, I don't know why, though I suspect it has something to do with worried farmers.
