In 2016, Hillary Clinton’s emails and the word “Benghazi” were used like blunt instruments — repeated ad nauseam until they drowned out reason. By 2020, the same machine turned the “Hunter Biden laptop” into a 24/7 obsession.

It didn’t matter whether the narratives were overblown, false, or even coherent. What mattered was repetition. Relentless repetition. That’s the conservative playbook: create a monster, assign blame, and never let go.

Now it’s time for Democrats to use that same playbook.

They won’t though. The Dems have issues staying on message and keeping their ducks in rows. Always have. It’s why, when the Pubs have an inferior message (and they don’t always, but even when they do) it wins anyway. They understand Madison Avenue politicking far better than the Dems do.

If I think of the strongest Democrat leaders (Bill Clinton, Obama) they stayed out of the mud and focused on their more positive message and platform proposals.

Unfortunately right now the Dems don't have a strong leader nor a clearly communicated message.

Pete Buttigieg?
Yup. Pete is one of the strongest leaders America has produced in recent years. I know someone who classed with him at Oxford and she can't speak highly enough of his character and intellect.

He would be someone who would have instant credibility both in the US and abroad.

Some people here have declared him "unelectable" but those same people might have come to the same conclusion when a black man ran.

The problem is that Pete is perhaps the emptiest suit I'll never meet, and is more a chameleon than someone with core beliefs (aside from vaguely seeming to be a proponent of the same neoliberal nonsense that got us into this problem in the first place). Even putting aside his sexuality, he's ultimately someone who strives for a fraction of Obama's eloquence while lacking the vast majority of his charisma.

Frankly, if it weren't for a, by any reasonable account, mediocre job as Secretary of Transportation, a gig he traded his backing of Joe in the 2020 mid-terms for as a springboard to obvious presidential ambitions, he'd be utterly unqualified besides (yes, I know Trump is infinitely less qualified, but that is obviously not the metric we should judge by).

LOL!!

You act as if this is the first time the Democrats have used this "Benghazi" tactic and that the Republicans use it over and over. That's nonsense.

I mean, seriously...the Dossier, grab 'em by the....., the Russia hoax...and that was all BEFORE Trump became President. The Democrats and Trump haters have used this tactic countless times against Trump.

As you say, "It didn’t matter whether the narratives were overblown, false, or even coherent. What mattered was repetition. Relentless repetition."

This Epstein thing is just another nonsense attack against Trump by the Democrats and Trump haters, with the addition of everyone else who is looking for dirt on their enemies...whether they are Democrat or Republican.

Donald Trump screwed young girls.

Those who live by the power of delusional conspiracies will eventually die by them as well. Truth is the enemy of such madness and as long as those that embrace the delusion are not in charge then they believe they have been denied access to the confirming truth.

But on the occasion they become the information gate keepers and find no confirming evidence of their delusions then there are only three possible reactions: shameful admission of being wrong and their resignation in disgrace, or recrimination and finger pointing blame within their ranks demanding mutual recrimination, or just an even deeper break with reality and a belief that the evidence has been destroyed by the deep state and is still hidden somewhere, just beyond reach.

The depth of their psychosis is measured by those reactions - although there is a 4th possible reaction by those who never cared about the truth, that of cynical doubling down to push the big lie for political gain.
