The Difference Between Libertarianism and Anarchism (1 Viewer)

I personally see libertarian as one simple statement: "The least government we can responsibly have."

I like free market. I like individual rights. I like reduced regulation.

I also like better managed social programs (preferably government influenced over government run, though). I like necessary market regulations. I like progressive taxation.

All said, I fall closer to libertarian than any other party. The key word above is responsibly. Anarchy is not acceptable for many reasons and big government is just as bad to me. Saying a libertarian is a hipster conservative is ridiculous, by the way.

It boils down to the scope of government...

  • Socialists believe that the free-rider problem applies to all goods
  • Liberals believe that the free-rider problem applies to many goods
  • Libertarians believe that the free-rider problem only applies to a few goods
  • Anarcho-capitalists believe that the free-rider problem does not exist

How can we determine who's right? We can determine who is right by allowing taxpayers to directly allocate their individual taxes...aka pragmatarianism. This would produce a taxpayer division of labor which would reveal the ideal division of labor between the private and the public sectors.

Can you elaborate? Do you see libertarians as wanting to dominate, or are you saying that those who wish to dominate pose as libertarians?
In other words, for example, people who wish to acquire wealth and/or power at all costs will preach the freedom that libertarianism provides yet abandon said libertarian principles when it comes to how they deal with and treat others.

Could you cite some principals that get abandoned? Could you show how libertarians want power? How about the backing up the assumption that wanting a free market means expectation of wealth?

Don't get me wrong, I am happy that we are now the targets of unfounded propaganda! It means we are being taken seriously :lamo

I see. So they pose as libertarians, but they really aren't. Yeah, that's pretty dickish. I would prefer they were real libertarians that stuck by their principles.

You obviously completely misunderstood what I said.
