...the anti-Trump movement, of which I’m a proud member, seems to be getting dumber. It seems to be settling into a smug, fairy tale version of reality that filters out discordant information. More anti-Trumpers seem to be telling themselves a “Madness of King George” narrative: Trump is a semiliterate madman surrounded by sycophants who are morally, intellectually and psychologically inferior to people like us.
I’d like to think it’s possible to be fervently anti-Trump while also not reducing everything to a fairy tale.
David Brooks at the New York Times writes about the decline of anti-Trumpism. And by decline he doesn't mean it's going away but that it's declining in quality and relevance.
But, David, David, when have Democrats ever not reduced everything to a fairy tale complete with unicorns and rainbows and a pie in the sky utopia off in the future somewhere? When have they ever not lied about and distorted the message of Republicans? The news is that conservatives like you, who yearn for the halcyon days of a classy blue blooded conservatism that never was, have joined them. You sold your soul for a neatly creased pants cuff, David.

Oh? Its a sure thing then! Good, go with all that confidence, it never hurt you in the past.
This is what I'm talking about. The Doug Jones seat totally goes Republican. Any doubt? Republicans 1, Democrats 0.Two words: Doug Jones

Trump is gaining in popularity. There are also many people who believe in cherry picked issues. Many are in favor of a wall (both Hillary and Obama voted for funding for a fence), but not in favor of his tax reform. If the economy is doing well during the midterms, and it clearly will, they will vote Republican. Then you throw in how Democrats screw up politicking and you have a perfect storm for Trump. Ya, Trump and Republicans. But since no one sees it,. It most definitely will happen.

You're right, not counting the truth, the politics of it are totally going in Trump's favor. You now have the right half of Congress believing that there getting the shaft. Imagine if the politics of such where Republicans want to distance themselves from an imploding president. They aren't. That's proof that Republicans are winning. Remember, after the verdict is read, the populace has to have confidence in the system; that the FBI and Mueller investigation we're fair. If they don't, please understand, Nothing Will Happen. My handycap has Trump up, not down. You conveniently left out the Mueller factor, not surprised, click your heels together three times and see if the Russia investigation goes away.
Time will tell if you are correct. I would not put a dime on the GOP keeping the House. You're right, not counting the truth, the politics of it are totally going in Trump's favor. When your argument has been reduced to "he's mentally unstable" you have lost.
Classic leftist attack. Every GOP'er president since the 60's have been "mentally unstable." It's become cliche. Normal people hear that and their eyes glaze over and the leftists get ignored.
Here's a little data. Watch how this plays out. In the last election, 90% of all counties voted for one presidential candidate or another by more than 10%. This means that only 10% of counties voted for one candidate or the other by 10% or less. So unless, in 90% of the counties swing by more than 10%, the winner remains the same as 2016. Therefore, 10% of the counties, only 10%, have a fair chance to flip. Otherwise the shift in counties would have to be bigger than 10%. And that would have to be a tectonic shift. Politics have shifted, but I'm not seeing, even with all the crazy ****, that it matters to anybody that it didn't already matter to. Politically, him dividing the country has worked out very well for him. He's got his tax bill, has an effective foreign policy with enemies ( not with allies, but that's not my point), a booming economy, and he will get the wall. Next year is looking very good for Republicans and not the democrats. I'm a Democrat. This is just how I see it.Time will tell if you are correct. I would not put a dime on the GOP keeping the House.
