Further proof that President Obama's #1 priority is politics, he will be returning to New Jersey next weekend for two more campaign events on behalf of Governor Jon Corzine's (D) bid for re-election. Still no decision on troop levels in Afghanistan, the Taliban and Al-Qaida are growing more emboldened, the latest health care reform bill in the House has exceeded $1 trillion in costs, the unemployment rate is still dangerously close to 10% and what is our president doing? He’s stumping for a very unpopular incumbent in the desperate hope of keeping his own party members in line.

With just a few days before the gubernatorial election in New Jersey, one wonders how much effect one more blathering, self-indulgent, platitude-filled speech by Mr. Obama could have but the man just can't seem to help himself. His list of presidential accomplishments to date still stands at zero yet he spends so much time and energy playing the roll of Campaigner-In-Chief every chance he gets.

Then there's his obsession with the coverage he gets on "cable news" and the ridiculous feud he's started with Fox News. This past week the administration attempted to exclude Fox from a pool interview with White House "pay czar" Kenneth Feinberg. But the attempt failed when the Washington bureau chiefs of the other networks consulted and decided that none of their reporters would interview Mr. Feinberg unless Fox News was included. The administration relented.

This kind of immaturity - Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace referred to the Obama administration as “The biggest bunch of crybabies I have dealt with in my 30 years in Washington.” (source) - is not presidential and certainly not the qualities the American people need in a leader. It's possible that the president himself is aware of this. That could be why he's avoiding his real responsibilities in favor of being a serial campaigner.
