EU calls for 'cessation of hostilities' between Armenia and Azerbaijan after renewed clashes

Wasn't there supposed to be Russian peacekeepers placed right in between the Armenian and Azerbaijani positions to make sure they couldn't do this anymore? Right, there are rumors they have bee quietly withdrawn because they are needed in Ukraine.

Azerbaijan quite clearly recognizes Russia's tilt towards Armenia which is why the Azeri's have been buying their weapons from Turkey.

Russia used to be very pro- Armenian, and anti- Azerbaijan (and Russia have a history of backing further conflict and been very active in getting involved in Armenian interior politics), but over the last few years Russian investments in Azerbaijan, especially in Azeri oil has changed the picture. Now Russia's main interest has been to try to stop the conflict from reemerging, see Russia being the country actively trying to get them to the peace table (and Russia basically dictating peace by sending Peacekeepers). Of course a peace depending on a third player will only last as long as the third player is there. If it's true that Russia moved their Peacekeepers to Ukraine, then nothing stops the Armenians and Azerbaijanis to be at each others' throat again.
