I declare my full support for Elon Musk’s American Party in a bold response to the failures of the Trump administration that threaten our nation’s future.

Trump’s big, beautiful bill is a fiscal disaster, adding $3.3 trillion to our national debt. This is completely reckless, handing out tax cuts to the wealthy while slashing Medicaid and food programs that millions rely on.

This isn’t visionary leadership; it’s a betrayal of the working class.

The American Party, under Musk’s vision, promises a disciplined approach to our finances, ensuring we invest in growth without bankrupting our nation.

I endorse the American Party because it represents a beacon of hope and a chance to rebuild an America that is fiscally sound, innovative, and united. Trump is more focused on settling scores than uniting us. I believe in leadership that stands firm on principle, not one that alienates innovators who dare to speak the truth. Inflammatory rhetoric about deportation is petty. I am appalled that Trump is stifling the industries of tomorrow that would secure America's leadership in clean energy. We need bold investments, not a neglect of innovation.

If Musk tanks the MAGA GOP in 2026, and in 2028, and destroys Trump's legacy in the process...he would have been the most unintentional "hero" in history...

However, what does that do for J.D. Vance, who he and Peter Thiel control, chances at the GOP nomination in 2028?

Yeah. . . like we need the Forward Party. and the Constitution Party, and the Working Families Party, and the Alliance Party, and the American Solidarity Party, and the Working Class Party, and the Alliance Party, and the Independent American Party, and the Socialist Equality Party, and the Worker's World Party, and the Independent Green Party, and the California National Party and all the dozens of other irrelevant parties.

There are literally HUNDREDS of irrelevant political parties in the U.S. today. The American Party is just one more on that massive list.

First of all, Musk has zero credibility here after his wanton DOGE destruction. There was nothing disciplined or fiscally responsible about what he did.

Second, his idea of fiscal responsibility is just incorrect. It's basically austerity, which is counterproductive. The nation cannot go "bankrupt," either. Efforts to reduce the deficit and extinguish the national debt are misguided; deficit spending is a necessity in our economy. A couple of years ago, deficit spending accounted for 6.4% of GDP, while growth was well below that, about 2.4%. Eliminate that deficit spending, and our economy shrinks - a lot. Instant recession, or worse. Musk has no clue.

Third, he's not trustworthy. DOGE was a self-serving exercise. Amazingly, a whole bunch of investigations into Musk's various enterprises were killed. So we are supposed to trust Musk to fund the campaigns of politicians without any kind of political favors to a guy who clearly seeks out political favors? No chance. Might as well name it the Tesla-X party.

Right now, a third party would probably pull in more disaffected Democrats than disaffected MAGAts, and the country can't survive more trumpian rule.
 
What we really need are politicians who represent their constituents.
What we have are politicians who represent their political party primarily, if they want to get elected or re-elected.
Democracy, especially at the Federal level, allows voters a choice between parties whose agenda is determined by a select few persons.

Aren't MAGA more likely to stay with the Republicans under a Trump style candidate?

What home do real Conservatives have in the USA these days? I would have thought an "America Party" would be better designed for these people.

Republicans don't break rank. If ever there was a time when principled Republican voters could have voted responsibly, or simply stayed home, it was 2024.

I would also say that there is no real conservative agenda anymore. Their platform is a collection of wedge issues and anti-Dem sentiment. Any promise of lower taxes, and they are in for anything and everything else that comes with that.
 

There hasn't been one since Reagan convinced yokels that "trickle down economics" works. Every faction of "conservatism" since has been rebranded with a different name, but ultimately it's the same drivel. "MAGA" Is just the latest reincarnation, before that it was "The Tea Party", and before that it was "Compassionate Conservatism". Same garbage ideology, rebranded and repackaged for every new decade.

Thanks, we have a situation here in the UK where the Conservative party was reshaped by Boris Johnson when he kicked out all the traditional centrist and left leaning Conservatives so that he could ram Brexit through. I made the mistake of thinking the OP was not a MAGA. Here, the harder right of the Conservatives who want even more Brexit and Trump style policies have left to form "Reform" so I guess this is where the OP and Musk want to go?

Can't see that appealing to anyone left of Trump or of a more traditional Conservative mindset.
 
I am truly impressed by the arrogance of Elon Musk to jump straight from "I will spend hundreds of millions of dollars electing Republicans" to "I will start a third party to stop the totally predictable Republican agenda," all in the span of just a few months. Maybe he should stop and think about why he fell for it when lots of other people didn't, and address those personal character flaws, before he jumps back into politics for Round Two. At the minimum, this kind of embarrassing about-face should warrant shutting up for a while and sitting out at least one election cycle. Clearly he isn't the political genius he thought he was.
 
There is already a political party for people who oppose Trump's deficit-exploding bill; who oppose Medicaid and SNAP cuts; who won't put out inflammatory rhetoric about deportation; who support clean energy; and who support innovation by investing money in scientific R&D.

That would be the Democratic Party. You should join, instead of joining Elon Musk's latest narcissistic endeavor which will go nowhere.

Whether or not Musk’s American Party becomes relevant remains to be seen. But there a certain segment of the public out there that are disgusted and dissatisfied with both major parties. This disgust has caused independents, swing voters, the non-affiliated and less to non-partisans group of voters to rise from 30% in 2006 up to 43% today while both major parties shrink. The Democratic Party is currently seen in a positive/favorable light by just 36% of all Americans while the Republican party is seen favorably, positive by 41%. Questions 19A and B.

There’s definitely some fertile ground out there for Musk’s American party to sow and reap from. But it will depend on message Musk’s American Party presents to the public and who the candidates are of Musk’s American Party. Just as important is the message and candidates the two major parties run. Running disliked candidates as the two major parties did back in the 2016 presidential election, Clinton 38% favorable/56%unfavorable and Trump 36% favorable/60%unfavorable as an example could open the door to Musk’s party for a successful election.

We’ll just have to wait and see. Musk’s party faces a very steep and high hill to climb just to get on the ballot. Republicans and Democrats write our election laws and they do so as a mutual protection act. If there’s one thing both major parties agree on, it’s no viable third party will ever rise.
 
Although I think Musk and his idea of a third party is a waste of time and money, something he seems to love to do, I do think if there is ever to be a third party it will be organic in that it will grow from the bottom before running a Presidential Candidate.
