At the G7 Finance and Central Bank governors’ meeting in Banff on May 21, Ukraine’s Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko sought financial support for 2026, “including the provision of support to the Ukrainian army through its integration into the European security system,” according to reports.

Ukraine cannot keep fighting into 2026 without a significant injection of European money. Even if the war were to stop tomorrow, Ukraine would still face a huge funding black hole. And that prolonging the war simply extends Ukraine’s indebtedness and delinquency, nudging it every closer towards the status of a failed state.

The Ukrainian side pointed out two assumptions that underpin their request — first, that funding Ukraine’s military supports macro-financial stability in that country. That is untrue. By far the leading cause of the increased financial distress of Ukraine is its vast and unsustainable prosecution of a war that it cannot win. Ending the war would allow for immediate reductions to be made to military spending, which accounts for 65% of total government expenditure.

Second, that paying for Ukraine’s military is keeping Europe safer. It isn’t. The best route to European security would be to end the war tomorrow. The risk of escalation only grows for the longer the war continues and President Zelensky resorts to increasingly desperate tactics as the battlefield realities turn against him.

This latest request for money is a clear signal that Zelensky is not serious about U.S. demands for peace, and would prefer to continue the fight, drawing directly upon European funds.

Or maybe Ukraine aren't ready to surrender to Russia?
There is only one way this war ends and that's with Russia pissing off out of Ukraine and promising to never invade again.

Much more likely a recognition that Putin will not stop and Trump can't make him.

There's a false premise in your post. Zelensky cannot stop this was war unless it's a complete surrender of the whole of Ukraine. That would reward Putin and motivate him to invade elsewhere next. Europe doesn't want that. Trump obviously hasn't been able to influence much at all.

The only person on this planet that can stop this war is the same man who started it.

Once all the money starts rolling in from the U.S. Raw Earth deal they'll be able to increase their military spending./s

I do not see the basis for your thesis either. Ukraine still has an Army, and that Army is far from defeat.

Reward how??? In war, all wars, you get only what arms can deliver. Russia or Ukraine, in the end, will get only what their Armies can seize. Most likely is Russia ends up more or less where its Armies are. Reward is a strage suggestion. No one gets to reward anything

The only person on this planet that can stop this war is the same man who started it.

The war can end in many ways

Or maybe Ukraine aren't ready to surrender to Russia?

You mean the Eu. War takes money. Lots of money. Hundreds of billions of dollars so far in this case. Ukraine long ran out of that kind of money back in 2022. The Eu wallet is what keeps Ukraine fighting. So the question of whether Ukraine is ready to surrender is actually more a question of the state of Eu's wallet

There is only one way this war ends and that's with Russia pissing off out of Ukraine and promising to never invade again.

There are tons of conceivable ways the war end

Like I stated long ago. This will lead to WWIII.

Yes, the EU and UK don't want to let Russia win a war of aggressive land grabbing on the EU border.
What a crazy idea that is.

That's what happens when a coup happens like it did in 2014. A large segment of the population rebelled. This gave Russia the perfect opportunity to stop NATO expansion to their border.

You cannot blame Russia for their actions, defying the EU and NATO expansion. Any blame is out of thoughtless hate.

All they needed to surrender a year ago was the Providences that rebelled. Now the whole country will be lost, and if the EU or NATO helps, WWIII is imminent.

You can't blame Russia for invading Ukraine?
What sort of twisted logic is this?

They are protecting their interests against the encroachment.

They are protecting their interests against the encroachment.

Oh, so Russia gets to invade whoever they like now if they can claim it's to protect their interests?
Does any other country get this special power or just Russia?

If you knew the history, you would know they did not go in until the rebellion already started. In Ukraine, it was effectively a civil war. Ethnic Ukrainian against ethnic Russians. Russia went in to help the ethnic Russians.

Of course, it helped their interests that the wanted the base in Crimea.

The illegal ousting of the sitting president in 2014, gave them the opportunity and excuse to secure their statistic interests.

Don't worry, Trump's got this...

"I am the only candidate who can make this promise to you: I will prevent World War III !!!" – DJT
"I am the Peace President, and only I will stop World War III!" – DJT

Wow...

That is not a Russian demand or in the cards
~~
Russia's primary territorial demands in Ukraine involve the four regions it illegally annexed in 2022: Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson, according to the Institute for the Study of War. Additionally, Russia demands Ukraine recognize Crimea as Russian territory and acknowledge the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk. Putin has also reportedly maintained a demand for Ukraine to cede all of these four oblasts, even though Russia doesn't fully occupy them
That would reward Putin and motivate him to invade elsewhere next. Europe doesn't want that. Trump obviously hasn't been able to influence much at all.

No . Neither Russia nor Ukraine can achieve all their territorial goals.. the war ends when both feel that warring cannot improve their positions

Why exactly are you defending a country that's involved in an invasion in Europe?

What gives Russia the right to invade after an internal matter in a foreign country?
Can the EU and UK launch an invasion of the US if we decide we don't like the results of your next elections?
